Running boards on Mavericks

I will be looking into running boards or nerf/step bars for a completely different reason—rock chip and rust protection. I live in the heart of the Rust Belt and running boards/bars add another layer of protection. And yes, that’s even with mudflaps installed. I actually don’t care for the looks of typical running boards on any type of vehicle—but it’s better than hundreds of rock chips and rust from plenty of previous experience.

If I don’t find anything I like, I will look into LineX or similar along the bottom (a common thing done here for this same reason).

I'm thinking about putting some on mine to make it easier for the kids to get in and out.

Those that have them on, were they worth it? Is there anything I should know or consider before buying them?

Solution to passenger loading/unloading problem that doesn't exist. But if people will buy something, it will be made.

why? I can suppose it can help older folks getting in and out of the truck but even then, it's so short as it is that I'm only 5'10 and I slide right in the seats.

I'm 85 and 5'7" and have no problem getting in or out of our XLT Hybrid. what older folks lol

Tires are stock 17” - dealer put rims from Bronco (for a price) since I truly disliked the steelies that were on the truck.

Only thing I can think of. I read replies before purchasing a Maverick and heard a couple complain the truck was too hard to get in and out of. After sitting in one, they had to of been extremely out of shape and have a hard time getting in any vehicle, respectfully.

Some people put the Bronco Sport wheels on the Maverick. I want to put the F-150 XL rims on the Mav but the F-150 has a different bolt pattern and I want rims that look like the F-150 XL rims but they can fit the Maverick.

Are they needed....no.

Do you want them....that's up to you.

Most of the mods we do are not needed.
We do mods because we want to and we can.

I think they look good.

The Keystone Cops in the "30's" movies used them to jump onto moving vehicles and shoot at gansters on the run. LOL

I think they would just hit my shins and calves more than they would be helpful. Taller trucks I have always had them on so I can stand on, kick the crap off my boots, and then wiggle in but this truck I just sit straight down into and my feet are still hanging out of the truck. I'm 6'1" if that helps anyone, and my mother who is 5'11" (ish?) did the same thing when she was checking it out. It was a part of the reason I chose the truck. I was tired of trying to jump into lifted trucks lol.

The maverick is just not tall enough for them.

I agree with @commadorebob that for a purely functional aspect there is very little need for running boards (or the tubular variants that have a different, pejorative seeming name that I can't think of off the top of my head). Unless you have a rack on the roof, then you could have people hanging off the side of the truck as you drive around the ranch. (Standing on the running board, holding onto the roof rack.)

Other than that, if looks are your thing, it's no worse than the stick-on hood air scoop cosmetic pieces. Not my truck, not my call.

I wonder about what people think about running boards on the Maverick. From what I've seen, people have mostly negative opinions on adding running boards on Mavericks. I wanted to see opinions on them from more people. So what are your opinions on adding running boards on Mavericks?

I am hauling 90 year olds, they have no problem getting in..
