I only know the severity of my Mav and it's not super cold here. This "twitching" hasn't bothered me too much and never felt like it will move forward or break auto hold. It varies directly with engine temp/ idle speed.

Is there any difference when you toggle auto-hold off/on?

As for dealers, if you don't trust the one you're using, go to another one. For warranty work you do not have to use the service department of the dealer you bought the truck from.
I notice no difference when using auto-hold.

Not sure if there is any relation at all, as the only thing in common is the idling and being made by ford…

My 2011 5.0L mustang has a similar issue with rev hunting at idle when I have the air conditioning on, and occasionally drops considerably before jumping back up. After some digging and asking around, it seems the large electrical load suddenly demanded by the cooling system drops the idle for some reason, especially when the smaller radiator fan is kaput and it can only use the large one.

Maybe something with the Mav heating system (cold weather symptoms worse) is causing sudden demands on the vehicle and so a similar symptom occurs as my Mustang?

I still get it when the ICE is cold. No pun intended. Once it warms up, it goes away. Mavs just love to dance!
Exactly as mine too. Only very occasionally though…

I started experiencing this issue 3 weeks ago, which happened to be the same day the dealership updated the truck with BCM 23E09. It has to be related to this update, because I've had the truck nearly 2 years and this starts the same day as the update.
At the same time I've noticed that the live fuel economy reads 99.9L/100km every single time I come to a stop or when in park. This started at the same time as the update, too.

Happy to find this thread when searching for these exact symptoms today.. 2023 hybrid, July build, never taken in for any BCM updates

also feel the slight bucking (like it wants to lurch forward, more so if I'm not depressing the brake completely) and the sound of the engine rev hunting, or surging..

Happened at a stop just after I started the vehicle up, I put it into neutral just to see if it would continue, then to park, then back to drive.. by the time I was back to drive all was normal.. 🤷🤷 have not noticed it after engine has warmed up. A/c was not on..

Haven't experienced this until this past week.. perhaps it does get brought out by cold weather, but it's definitely been colder in FL than this past week.. 🤷🤷

I do think the cold weather plays a factor. Have you noticed your fuel consumption crank up when the lurching/surging is present, like what I've shown in my post above?

Well, my AWD XLT Ecoboost has had a weird idle since I bought it new, much like what is described in this thread. When I'm slowing down with the foot of the gas it doesn't smoothly go to idle, it revs up and down several times before finally settling. It also seems to have an excessive wheeze during acceleration.

I didn't feel any bucking until I got it back from the dealership about 2 weeks ago though. They fixed the turn signal recall and did the AWD RDU flush service bulletin. In doing so they upgraded the BCM, I believe. Well, now I feel like it idles slightly worse AND bucks slightly at times. And the thumping from the RDU is even louder. So yay.

And yes, top tier 93 octane gas only (or 91 when I can't get 93) so that's not the issue.

I wonder if the Livernois tune will fix this?

Ah, so I just replicated it! I started up the truck, kept it in park, pressed down the gas pedal to turn on the ICE.. no problems so far.. but then I switch to neutral and there it is.. surging, rev hunting.. no lurch though. Over to reverse and no problem. Over to drive (with the brake held down) no problem. Over to park, no problem. Back to neutral, And it's gone! The ambient temp was 69 degrees.

And, I had my eye on the instantaneous mpg, it never changed, it stayed at zero mpg..

My Maverick has been exhibiting a rough idle condition for about two months. When idling at a stop, you can hear the engine rev hunting. At infrequent cadences, it also feels like the truck is "bucking" forward - a noticeable bounce, as if someone gently rear-ended you, or you were sitting on a bridge and could feel it bouncing. If one's foot isn't firmly on the brake, the truck will also try to pull forward gently. It feels like a misfire, but the truck isn't throwing any error codes.

My local Ford dealer has been absolutely unhelpful and unwilling to take this seriously or do anything about it. When I scheduled a service appointment for it, they told me they observed the issue and "called ford about it" and that "Ford engineers said it was fine" yet wrote it down as "could not replicate" on the paperwork, so something doesn't add up.

I believe this behavior began around November when the dealer performed the BCM update 23E09.

Has anyone experienced something similar? I've owned many vehicles and this is something that would have concerned me and sent me to my mechanic on any of them. My dealer's suggestion to just ignore it does not work for me. It does not seem like a minor issue. I'm worried about getting kicked around until the warranty runs out and then getting stuck with an expensive repair.

Has anyone experienced this same problem, and if so, have you been able to come to a resolution under warranty working with dealer service? Any magic words I should say, or avenues I should ask them to pursue?
I got this when weather was colder. cold start drive 300 feet to stop sign and it bucks and prances. Seems excited to go, I did not bring up this minor concern as I was very concerned due to power loss. Mine has not done this dancing since weather has warmed.
