I had the same thump and symptoms. Ford dealer drained the rear AWD unit and found that it had metal shavings in it. The fluid level was also low, from factory. They ended up replacing the unit (1 day job) and I haven't heard the thump since.
I do have other issues which I suspect has to do...
Quite a few on my 2023 AWD XLT Ecoboost, unfortunately.
2) AWD issue likely caused by the front/rear units not being filled to proper level from factory.
The issue was a heavy thud and tremor when slowing down to about 1200-1500RPM plus heavily fluctuating RPMs before settling down to idle...
Just wanted to follow up on this older thread in case someone else have these issues.
Regarding #1: The "thump" issue went away after a proper tech (there was only one at this dealership, the others were oil-changers, their words) drove it, ran diagnostics, did some research and determined it...
Man, that sucks, but glad you got a new Maverick out of it.
Yeah thanks I'd like to find out more about the buyback process. I didn't even know that was an option!
Could you share how to perform the AWD module adaptive learning reset? My thud is worse than ever after Ford did the TSB and changed the oil in the RDU, which by the way did have metal shavings in it. The truck also revs up now after each thud. Lovely!
Just curious if you found out anything else? I haven't been able to get the RDU reset but after Ford did the TSB and changed the oil etc. the thud is worse than ever and there's a rev issue too when it happens (truck revs slightly after the thud). Really weird.

Bought March 2023
23400 miles
Had one on order locally but came across one in a dealer lot west of Chicago while up there and snapped it up. So my first trip was a 4.5 hr road trip.
My weekday commute is about 42 miles and have also made several trips to Arkansas. Miles are...
I'm curious if you had to remove your antenna to install the rack/tent combo? Or did swapping to a stubby do the trick?
I bought an 18" XTR1 rack to make sure my Naturnest cheap-o hardshell tent clears the antenna but have to say the aesthetics of the tall rack kinda bugs me a little. MPG...
Thanks for sharing!
I'll probably be doing something like this down the road to my XLT. I can honestly live with the way the speakers sound but lawd, the bass vibration rattling drives me crazy! The truck sounds like it was glued together and the glue just melted.
Physics are physics, and I do follow you, but design, build quality, and perception is also a thing. Being used to 4 bangers I guess I just don't pick up on the roughness like someone familiar with V8s would.
One of the roughest sounding engines I've ever owned was my '87 Ford 250 V8 but it had...
We've put 22k miles on my '23 Maverick over the last year. Got a 50 mile daily commute and have made many trips down to AR from IL to visit family, and well, to get away.
For the first 18k I ran almost exclusively 87, filled at whatever station was close, and while it wasn't terrible I did feel...
Well, my AWD XLT Ecoboost has had a weird idle since I bought it new, much like what is described in this thread. When I'm slowing down with the foot of the gas it doesn't smoothly go to idle, it revs up and down several times before finally settling. It also seems to have an excessive wheeze...
After reading this thread I'm pretty sure it's the RDU. I think it needs to be reset.
I did get the local Ford dealership to complete the service bulletin related to the RDU, but now it's even louder. I don't believe they actually reset it though, so that's next on my list. Just need to figure...
Just did a trip down to and through the Ozarks myself, in the Ecoboost. I didn't get anywhere near 34 MPG though so how in the world did you manage that?? I think was doing about 27 in normal mode with barely any weight bar a couple of small suitcases. Would love to get 34 unless it means going...
2023 Ecoboost XLT AWD with ~18.5k miles on it.
So far I really like the truck and I haven't had any real issues with it except the minor annoying things listed below, which I hope you guys and gals can help shed some light on.
1. When I slow down and get below ~15 mph there is a very audible...
