I should have also mentioned that I was concerned about my visibility out the rear window (didn't want to lose it) and wanted to pay attention to not blocking the break light. That's why I thought 2 inches would've been OK.

Hope this helps
Thanks for the additional insight. Also, great tip on using the cut off piece for a hole template!

First post here, but haven’t see too many setups with platforms. I plan to cut the elevate racks to lower it about 3” so the surface of the platform is just above the cab.

The setup is really really sturdy and I love it.

Not a great picture of our elevate system and tonneau cover. We've been through lots of rain with the cover and love it.

I recently completed my install / modifications, but I cut 1-1/2 inches.

So, just finished my 1st full tank (post install bed rack / tonneau) & I was surprised that I was able to get 600 miles on a tank! Surprising b/c my driving profile wasn't as fuel efficient as normal and I had to drive at least 65% Highway.

Next I wanted to address the Awning or Canopy solution... These things can be very expensive, so I decided to go simple & lightweight to make sure that my mpg's do not get impacted. I've only put this up 1 time to test it out and I really like how easy it is to setup with the added benefit of having multiple configuration options due to the 10x15ft dimensions. At a total cost of $83 for 3 items (eye bolts, canopy & tent poles) it seemed to be a no brainer.

What part is that for the roof rack - that rail? And how was it installed?

I like your setup better than the roof rack adapter-type clamps that go into the door.

this might be a silly observation, but it seems to me that you have a different system than the OP in this thread. yours appears to have multiple positions and his does not.

the OP is planning to cut his shorter and you already have done that.

you guys are capable of making your own decisions but my second silly observation is that perhaps the distance above the cab was well-chosen by the company who manufactured the rack systems so that even if they flex they will not strike the cab, or an open sunroof.

lowering it all the way to just above the cab as the OP stated a desire to do seems like it could end badly if there is any flex in a load that's above the cab.

just some thoughts. not an expert but I personally would not modify either system as-delivered from the manufacturer.

Hi Colinl, first, you have valid concerns as I did when researching. That is one of the reasons why it took me so long before deciding. So, let me start with my solution needs / requirements:

  1. I wanted to replace my soft Tonneau w/ BAK X4s (REQUIRED)
  2. I wanted a Bed Rack to work w/ BAK X4s (REQUIRED)
  3. I wanted a Rack system that was adjustable (REQUIRED)
  4. I wanted a strong, durable & reliable rack system (REQUIRED)
  5. I wanted a rack system that already has the modifications that I'm looking for OR can be modified to my needs!
  6. I am sensitive to PRICE & AVAILABILITY...
  7. I'm very sensitive to good customer support...

I have had several conversations with "RealTruck" regarding what I wanted to do and they were supportive! HOWEVER, as anyone would expect I know I have violated my Rack warranty & they voiced this to make sure they covered themselves!

Why modify:
  1. I want better aerodynamics & mpg's when not is using the racks! On the Maverick the unmodified Low is above the roof.
  2. I did want the low to be even lower to accommodate an RTT in the future, but I'm OK for now.
  3. The High position on the Maverick is ridiculously too high, even "RealTruck" comments on that.
  4. I required an adjustment height to align with my Yakima Roof Racks so I can transport my Hobie Outback.
Once you look at the build of this rack system... to me it is very apparent that it easily accepts & accommodates modifications. It is a strong & thick tube in tube system.

Hope this helps :)

I am sure Everyone likes it better, problem is the cost is double the already expensive top line clamp ons like Rhino (partly because pro install is preferred for headliner removal and drilling) and quadruple the no name brands. Crazy that Ford didn’t offer roof rails or at least fixed mounting points like others -without that “naked roof” clamping is needed. I am probably going to remove roof rails when not needed so just going to start w cheap clamp ons until/unless I can make an investment like the OP did. (Jealous). Meantime will follow his lead w cutting down Elevate bed towers.

Yes, this is the X15. I have a predecessor to the X15 on my Rebel and love it. This one is very similar, but I really like the look of the canvas instead of black vinyl. Overall we love the X15

The elevate rack is intended to telescope, so there are actually two tubes for each upright. Need to cut each of them and then re-drill the holes through them. Plan to use a chop saw with a high tooth count blade.

No rooftop tent as we like to set up camp and then tour around. The rack will allow gear on top and soft goods inside the tonneau. Also have some j-racks for kayaks when we want to bring those.
We’ve been using the big truck, but it is overkill most of the time for just two of us. Excited to see how well the maverick works.

I did the cuts at 2.5” - longer items still go over cab but barely and on either side of the stupid antenna- for a few 12-16’ lumber pieces I put a blanket over cab to protect paint and the load there is small enough. I want removable low profile roof racks for larger loads but haven’t done it yet and I would probably have to raise the elevate racks to do this (pia with bolts/nuts vs a quick release on some brands- i)
All in all I like the cut off racks (also trimmed width of cross bars a couple inches
