Hi All - many of you seem to have the Elevate bed rack and I'm wondering what your suggestion is for a roof rack to align at the lower setting? Additionally, I'm interested to hear your thoughts on crossbar length.

The Elevate Cross Bars at 67"

I like the look of the Rhino Rack Vortex. The recommended cross bar length is 55" but I feel they would be best to align with the elevate rack. They have a 65" length but I'm wondering what your opinions are on overhanging cross bars. This would possibly mean giving issues of head injury getting in an out.

Also can anyone tell me the height of the elevate bars in the lower setting over the roof. i hope the bare roof racks available align well.

If anyone has done something similar let me know.

I did a writeup a few months ago about using a Yakima roof rack with the elevate bed rack. The roof tilts slightly forward compared to the bed so unless the roof rack is adjustable the bed rack has to be lightly modified to get things perfectly level, but it's just drilling a hole in one of the two bed rail supports.

thanks for the link. i ended up going with a thule rack as my dealer had a deal + ford pass money make it cheaper. i'm not sure if i like the burkly thule attachments over the yakima but i think i really would be happy with both. i'll let you know how the bed rack install goes once i do it. probably a while still.

I bought the Thule rack to use for my Kayak, but have yet to install. Bought directly from Thule after talking to them (via email). I had the Thule rack for my Escape and was hoping that I could use the cross bars. NADA... the Escape cross bars are shorter than those for the Mav. The only thing I could transfer from the Escape rack to the Mav. rack were the locks. When I bought, it was about $100.00 cheaper directly thru Thule than thru Ford and I saved my points for oil changes, etc., which will be coming up fairly soon (oil life is in the 20's now). lol

I use elevate rails then added one rear cross bar IO made myself from Tnutz. Yakima cross bars on roof of cab. So I have three cross bars. The main reason is I also use a Hullavator which attaches to the from cab cross bars,. BUT I only use the Hullavator once in a while for a shorter boat I have . Other wise I load from the rear.

Plus when I first got my 23 Mav I only had the cab cross bars as I had them from past vehicle.

Just recently carried my Hobie Outback on my bed only racks. Zero issues mounted and strapped to the truck racks on a windy 100 mile RT journey to the bass lake. I had these racks on my F250 8ft bed and they actually are so adjustable that they fit just as well on my new Mav.

Dan's setup is what I would recommend for long boats. I have mostly the same set up. The bed rack is steel off ebay and cut to match the height of the removable yakima crossbars on the cab. I put j-bars on the roof rack for whitewater boats. When I am not hauling boats the 4 crossbars act as a serviceable lumber rack for hauling long stock.

The whole thing is removable. The crossbars use yakima landing pads and the the bed rack uses threaded rivnuts. I have been using the setup for 3 years now and folks have been impressed how easily I can transport things. The last one was a 20 foot section of 6 inch plastic pipe.
