Rexing V1 dash cam help

Hi everyone,

I got my '23 Ford Maverick Lariat Lux HYBRID over the memorial weekend.

This morning I was attempting to install a Rexing V1 dash cam in the truck when I noticed that the cigarette lighter will always be on.

Any workarounds?

I would think most people would want there dash cam running only when car is running.

Doesn't the 12V outlet shut off automatically after a set time period (15, 30 mins)? I haven't tested it but thought I read that somewhere, and that's how it works in my son's 2019 Edge.

Cigarettes plug stays on for 60-90 min. after exiting the vehicle, which could be a good way to have a “Sentry mode” for your camera, while in parking lots.

If you don’t want that, purchase the hardwire instillation kit for your unit and you can connect it to the fuse box, to turn off with the key.

Some shut off, some are powered up 24/7.

I left my dashcam plugged and on the dash where I could see it running from my bedroom window.

It appears after 90 minutes the cigarette outlet shuts off. I went to the truck and verified that the adapter light was off.

I don't have a rexing v1 but my similar garmin cameras tend to draw around 2-3 amps when processing moving footage, maybe .5A minimum when parked and no motion/change in scene.

it sounds like you don't care about parking mode features.

the truck does care about current draw on anything that isn't connected to the OBD2 port, including the lighter plug. based on 12V battery voltage or current draw, the truck could go into deep sleep mode which will shut off everything except devices connected to the OBD2 port, and it will disallow FordPass access to remote start or remote lock/unlock.

if you cared about parking mode for a dashcam you might want a dedicated battery, or at least to connect to OBD2. but for what you seem to be asking, yes, it should be fine to use the cigarette lighter adapter unless it bothers you if the truck goes into deep sleep.

No issues to date.

In fact last week when I flew out for a trip and came back, I noticed the truck would shut the dash cam immediately the first few times I drove the truck (presumably power saving feature since truck wasn't being used for a week)

I have had this dash cam in the truck for 3 months and don't think this would be an issue since the truck will automatically cut off power to ACC if battery drops below a certain voltage
