But, as I wait the last couple of weeks for my Maverick to show up, I thought I would take a peek at Edmunds, a source of review info I have always respected in the past.
I still respect them, but after looking up the Maverick reviews in Edmunds, I found it hilarious the disconnect between Edmunds' reviews and consumers' own reviews.
Edmunds' reviews were not very enthusiastic. "Rides like a truck"... "Interior has a low buck feel to it", etc. I guess I kinda expected that, since it's not a Honda or a Toyota. (And lately, Edmunds' reviewers seemed to love Hyundai, too!) Their overall rating was 7.3 out of 10.0, including an ignorant 7.5 out of 10 for "Is it a good value?"
But compare that to the unbelievable ratings by actual consumers! 92% gave it five stars! The written reviews by owners of Mavericks exude love and pride and basically, they can't believe what a great vehicle they have been blessed with at such a low price.
So if, like me, you need something to help pass your time on a Sunday morning, check it out: https://www.edmunds.com/ford/maverick/

Have you all seen this same kind of thing?

By the way, I didn't even bother to check Consumers Reports, which I swear is a Japanese company! (Just kidding.)

"Experts" have screwed the last 2 years up, why expect "experts" to understand how a 25K hybrid pick up that gets 42 mpg is a good value ?

Get your truck. You will love it. And when the Mav is selling like crazy, maybe they will learn. Doubtful as most "experts" seem to double down on stupidity.

I don't respect any "Expert Reviews" anymore. They are all paid to say what they say and I find the actual costumer reviews to be more accurate. Of course, you have to watch those as well since people get paid to leave reviews. It's like watching the news, to get the truth take it in from multiple sources and read between the lines.

We've now had our hybrid XLT for 2 weeks and ~450 miles. The one and only "complaint" we have is that the interior material is clearly very low-budget, but what do you expect for the cheapest truck and hybrid overall on the market? Otherwise it has vastly exceeded our expectations in every other way and fits our needs like nothing else on the market. Initial buyer's satisfaction is highest for any vehicle we've ever purchased.

There are several threads pertaining to the Consumer Reports review, at least one of which I posted in several times. Not going to spend time looking it up and linking it, but the CR review was actually quite positive.

The interior for the XLT (and the XL) are definitely low budget. Not shabby, but definitely not luxurious either. I’m fine with what I have because it was such huge step up from my 94 Ranger.

Probably depends on the individual reviewer for each media company. Clearly the author of the Edmonds review does not understand economics, practicality, value, or the functional lifestyle. Not everyone "gets it", unfortunately.

Mr. Mojo, I figured I wasn't the only one who would look at reviews, so thanks for letting me know.
Maybe the most notable aspect of the whole thing is I realized I didn't do that much research before ordering my Mav. I heard about it, researched it for about a day and I was convinced.
My truck was "shipped" about 10 days ago, hoping I have it in my hands in a couple of weeks.

A few legitimate gripes with a final score that aligns with most reviews that are already out there. What's the problem here?

One of the big problems of these reviewers is context.

When your job driving every vehicle available including the $100,000 versions, it's inevitable that you compare it to them. Reviewers of all kinds struggle to "rebalance" their perspective when they are reviewing most things.

I think people used to driving luxury or sports cars can't relate to the maverick. When you are used to 0-60 times of 3.5s, sure 7.5s probably seems slow. If you are used to comfort air suspensions and sound insulation, a little bit of road noise probably seems cheap.

I think that the cheapness of it just adds to the appeal.

Imagine if the Maverick had a Honda name plate. Exact same vehicle would receive 6 out of 5 stars.

This is the last review I watched before I put my order in. I thought he was honest in his assessment and has the ability to review it for what it is... not compared to luxury sport sedans or high end luxury trucks.

This is Doug Demuro's video review and is 28 minutes long if you watch on regular speed.

Why do you say it is low budget? I find the interior durable and trucky. It is a truck. You are gonna get dings and scratches. My girlfriend spilled some Pepsi on the seat a week after I got it and started to cry......my response was, " it is a truck, nothing more. Shit gonna happen." Got some scratches on the inside door panels...so what. I am averaging over 50 mpg to work and back....that's what I care about. You can't keep a new car perfect if you use it.
