Returning my Maverick tomorrow

Before giving up on a vehicle that I had thoroughly researched and waited so long to get I’d definitely have the dealer inspect it to see if they can fix the problem in a timely manner. If it really drives that poorly then they should be able to identify the problem quickly. Time spent in the shop shouldn’t count in the 3-day grace period.

If you’re looking for an inexpensive truck that gets great mileage and can tow then the current options are pretty limited.

I came from a 22 Escape Hybrid and i cant even tell the difference in driving unless i look out the windows and see the bed. It's the same vehicle.

The truck wanders around. The wandering got more noticeable above 60 mph. No darting, but it would slowly drift either right or left depending on where I was in my lane. The steering feels heavy, like the power steering isn't working as it should. Since everyone else seems to have no issues like I'm experiencing, it sounds like mine has some problems from the factory either in the build or with components. If the truck already has issues with 70 miles on it, I don't want to find out what other problems may come.

I realize you said this was a bare bones XL with no CP360 but what you are describing sounds exactly like the Lane Assist function. I have a XL EB with CP360. When I took it for a test drive on the freeway I noticed the steering wheel seemed very heavy and pulled against me when I changed lanes. It was like the power steering went out for a moment. And the truck would seem to drift a bit between lanes.

I mentioned this to the sales person and he said the Lane Assist function must be turned on. It was working as intended and was trying to keep the truck centered between the lane markings. This was causing the pull. You can see an icon in the dash when it is active. He had me push a button at the end of the turn signal knob to turn it off and it immediately went away and the truck drove great. It turns out the LA settings were also set too high. I reset those to a lower level so the effect wasn’t as severe and it works great. Check this out before returning. It’s a long shot that it has Lane Assist but it will only take a second and might save you some grief.

Liking something or not liking something especially when it comes to vehicles is so subjective. Unless you bought a Maverick thinking it had 500 hp V-6.
My favorite vehicle was a 2010 F150 absolutely loved it. Pained me to sell it. Would not fit in garage after moving.
Have had my Maverick Hybrid since July 2023. No surprises. Rides a little truckry, that fine I like trucks. I find my self going too fast on the highway as it is so darn smooth. Rolls at 80 + feels clamped to the road. Keep in mind it is a truck.

Isn't it supposed to not do that, if you're indicating a lane change by using the turn signal?

Yup. Mine works perfectly when engaged.

Yes, when I did my test drive there was hardly any traffic and I changed lanes a couple of times without using my turn signal. It does not happen when the turn signal is on. Should have mentioned that in the post. But the drift I described had nothing to do with that. It was just the settings were too high.

Yes. If this was a real issue, there would be at least a few posts in 3 years about steering. Pretty clear this was a "I don't want the truck (for some personal reason), so what can I blame it on" situation.

I felt that way about my 1998 Honda Civic hatchback CX. It was a bare-bones vehicle that I bought new, manual transmission, had to have the AC system installed and a stereo/speaker system. All-in I paid around $11K for it. Had that car for 160K trouble-free miles (other than needing an alternator and replacing the wiring harness, which somehow dropped and burned on the manifold and turned my car into a moving disco with lights flashing and everything on the dashboard blinking and the needles bouncing left and right - pretty cool, actually...) before meeting its demise by getting rear-ended by an 18-wheeler, which blew out all of my rear windows (ever felt glass hitting you at full speed?) bent my frame to hell and twisted the driver's seat to the left. Got out of the car with nothing more than a bruised ankle. That car drove like a tank and was as reliable as they come. No other Honda I've owned has come close to the quality of that little car.

Your Maverick hybrid drives trucky? I find it comparable to driving my Honda Element - more SUV-like than anything resembling a truck.

Trucky It seems a little harsher than my F150 although taller tires, more weight, front buckets like a Barca lounger may affect that feel. . The hybrid tire I believe has less tread depth and are a bit harder compound. If I'm wrong someone will be right along. The ride reflects that. Zero complaints from me though.

Have never owned a Honda or Toyata. My dad would have beat my ass and throw me out of the house....

I drove mine 50 miles home from the dealer and realized in the first 5 minutes the tires were overinflated. I stopped and reset them to 37 (35 +2) and ride improvement was significant. Not saying this was your issue, but vehicle setup is an art not a science as some thing the max pressure is the inflation pressure while others realize it's on the driver door sticker.
