Maybe this will help.

Here is a pic of the cable.

And it looks like you just need to remove that black cover. (number 2)

That definitely looks like the front, easier to access connection.

There is no recall or TSB from Ford (yet)

It is being discussed on the Ford Message boards and sense the battery cables are on back order, they are crimping a lug on the end as an interem repair until more guidence is given from Ford. Not all techs/SA's are on the FMC board so they might not be aware of the issue.

Question:
Why is the (apparently) aluminum piece in this photo necessary? Why not just put the (apparently) copper lug directly on the post? One less connection to worry about.

Per image in post #11, to me it looks like it's the second cable, the one closest to windshield... and not the one in front that's easiest to get to...

Wouldn't a tinned copper lug be better?

Milous, you got it after looking at the pics, you can even see the cable with bad solder joint.

I told wrong, Milous has it. Its the lower/back one that connected to the 12v bus bar.
(Although it could be any connection on the 12v bus, we have theorized that it could be any connection that could be bad on the harness).

It comes up from underneath. I would troubleshoot the voltage with DVM to make sure.

93 nighthawk, please tell us that is not a repair done on your Mav, or by Ford dealership, please.

That is one of the most shoddiest electrical repair i have seen lately and in my career.

There are So many electrical no-nos there its crazy.

Where to start, this was to fix a brand new vehicle?

Lets see, theres no less then 3 different metal/alloys there were galvanic corrosion is going to have a field day, especially long term.
Did they find a greasy bolt out in the parking lot to use? What they could not buy any heatshrink? The joint wasnt even protected/covered/sealed to prevent moisture exposure.

This repair is so atrocious, i would be ashamed if i did that on someones Mav.

I dont Iike nor care for dealerships.

Open for opinions

I get where you're coming from, but I don't believe that's the final repair; at least that what's I took from his post. Looks like it's a stop gap until they get the cable situation figured out. And I'm guessing the bolt they used was the one that came with the truck, it's just dirty and they didn't clean it.

I do agree though, they could've thrown some heat shrink on it to clean it up a bit.

Yep, the front harness is much shorter, and it did not match the "$700" long harness that some owners have had replaced and which is shown in the parts diagram.

Soooooo, I would still like to inspect the back cable end, but it appears that the fusebox has to be removed for access. I've been told that the fusebox is "easy" to remove, but I am still shy about doing it. Can anyone shows some details on what's involved to remove it - I assume I have to unhook the negative post on the underseat 12v battery first (?), and then I'm not sure what clips on the fusebox to unlatch, and it it just lifts straight up... or?

Beard thx for post. I was just letting others know they dont have to put up with shoddy work, and what to look for.

Its all about educating others.

We could get into a good conversation about dealership repairs, i was under the impression that any warranty repairs performed had to use Ford parts.

I would have done the repair just a little different as well. In electrical/electronics you want to minimize connection points. I would not have made that connection with a bolt, i would have soldered a lug on the cable and bent the tab and installed on the post, torqued fastener. Heatshrink and electrical contact grease would be there as well.

Again i would like to emphasize these are computer rich vehicles, with several levels of voltage and those levels need to be 'clean' and a specific tolerance levels. Connection points need to be absolute and permanent. Computers become unreliable when voltage levels are not in range.

Again, you could use that repair on your lawn mower but not a hybrid Electric vehicle.

Absolutely remove negative battery cable at battery before ANY work done regarding this matter.

You bring up good point. Has anyone on put a wrench to the bus points?

Is there enough slack to bring that cable up for inspection? I go look at my mav.

Folks, great critique on the repair quality but consider reality.

1. There is NO TSB, NO service bulletin
2. Many dealers are in the dark with no guidance.
3. Full Harness is on backorder
4. Most dealers have no loaners
5. Would you want it fixed so your vehicle can be used until Ford issues an official fix?
6. Would you prefer that your Mav will be sitting at a dealer for 1 month +?
7. One final note, there is no guarantee that any replacement harness has resolved the problem.
