Let’s say you order a Maverick and you change your mind that you don’t want it after it arrives? What happens?

Do you have to put a down payment to order one? Does it differ with each Ford dealership?
When I ordered mine back in June of '21 I asked my sales guy this same question. I straight up looked at him and said "What happens if the truck comes in and we don't like it? Are we still on the hook to purchase it?" He looked at me and said it wouldn't be a problem for him to sell it so it wouldn't be a problem at all if we decided not to buy it.

Our dealership did not require a deposit or down payment at time of ordering but each dealer is different.

Bought at Chapman in Horsham, PA. No deposit was required and I could walk away. Signed DORA, order confirmation came to my email, all updates came to my email. No BS, straight forward and an overall great experience. I will go there again even though it is a three hour round trip drive.

Cool Great. Interesting you did not use your local dealer. Good luck with the truck Thank You
I won't use my Local dealer anymore either, and we bought 7 new vehicles from them in the last 21 years. There are 20 other Ford Dealers within an hour drive. I'm going to order from the Dealer who did my last deal best, on my 2018 Mustang GT. They are about 18 miles away instead of 2.

Funny I have seen on this forum no deposit, $500, $1,000 and higher. My dealer required $100 fully refundable. Seems funny only $100… doesn’t seem like it is worth the hassle.

No deposit.
Know to take license and properly put in an order.
Locked in trade-in price at time of order.
Invoice pricing (~$1000 under MSRP & under Xplan).
They know how to do price protection and look at order vs date numbers.
Sent me periodic updates the entire time.
Van Bortel Ford; ask for Paul Bowers; feel free to say Mark B sent you.

The dealer just takes it, adds their shit to it, marks the price up some and sells it to someone else and probably makes more money off of it. There's really no risk to the dealership right now.

Short reply

In the old days I ordered a 2022 Maverick in Oct 2022. Expect car in about a year. $100 deposit.

6 months later my salesman called to say he had a car being unloaded. Hooray. I thought.

Not my car, but a First Edition model in real red. Not orange red. He asked if I wanted it? Maybe. What is the deal? Seems a fellow ordered the car maybe 8 months ago and now thinks it's too much money for him.

I had another year to wait. It was Rapid Red. Which is what I wanted but couldn't get. I didn't order in time for the red to be available. Now I get a First Edition in my color and even a tiny discount.

I drive, since April 2023, a Rapid Red First Edition Ford Maverick. The guy that originally ordered it lost $100. I paid a premium offset by the great salesman working on the deal to whittle it down to about even.

A First Edition was a limited edition of the lariat with most everything on it and a bunch of special decals noting First Edition a few thousand times in tiny letters.

The dealer made money. Since my salesman was not the salesman on the original order he made money. My cactus gray arrived months later and I got my $100 refunded and some person drove it away. Maybe he paid extra for getting one earlier than expected. So what. Everyone got what they wanted or didn't want. That's business.

Ford does not require a deposit but dealers may. The amount will vary a lot. My dealer originally asked for $1,000 I said no and he said $500. I was OK with that because it gives me some legal standing if things go wrong. Would not have that unless money exchanged hands.

If you place an order and refuse it when it comes you can walk away. However, under the new rules if that happens to a dealer too often ( I think more than 25% of orders) the dealer will be sanctioned by Ford. Which is why dealers are asking for deposits and being careful that you are actually serious.

Make sure to ask if any deposit is refundable if you think you might not take the truck.
Get it in writing! that way you both have a copy of what was agreed to when you placed your order.

I'd like to see some pictures of that truck. Sounds cool.
