backup cameras are very useful, especially for old necks. i do see folks who just can't embrace the view and ignore them. mine glitched a couple of times. luckily i didn't hit anything, could have been expensive. Ford put the lense under the blue oval so every drop of water just hangs there.very annoying. some day i'm gonna affix a little hood.

30,000 units times $30,000 per unit. That's $900 million in unrealized revenue for Ford. I pulled 30,000 units out of the air (kind of). The quarterly results reported 45,000 units of unsold inventory. I'm theorizing that 2/3 of that is unsold numbers. Cut it in half and it's still $450 million.
Math gets crazier when you try to calculate cost of the recall fix. They've got over 200k units that need fixed, between the handful on the lots and the enormous amount of people already driving theirs. So if the fix is $2,000 each, it will cost well above $400 million to fix all of them.

I'm not sure how much more Ford can be fined for the issue if they don't fix it. If it ever becomes cheaper to never fix them, compared to fixing them all, what happens then?

Like how much would it cost if they have to swap out every infotainment system? The math would look even worse. I hope they have the fix, and it's not too intrusive, and they're just waiting for logistics to figure out when they can have the supply.

I've noticed that it seems mine mostly hiccups/lags when I'm jumping in the truck and leaving quickly. Like it's struggling for processor time while it's still booting or something. If I'm in no hurry and wait a minute before backing up, I don't usually see the glitching.

So it's not been much of a hinderence. But definitely dislike it when I have my flip up cover up against the back window, that's when I rely on the camera a lot more.

🤓 🤔 what is it with Ford and there recalls? Back in Sept. 2024, I got a notice on the rear view camera. Have heard nothing since. Today I got a notice on the battery problems, and it says no parts available? I wonder when they will get there act together? 🤔
Quite dizzying isn’t it? Simple: it’s called quality control and they are very poor at it even though they hired a new quality control person a while back it takes a while for it to catch up to see results. I’ve lost count and I’ve stopped going to get recalls done on my truck I figure I’ll get it done in a couple of years perhaps by then they’ll be done screwing around. Ford has invested a lot of money in electrification and now that the market is softening perhaps they’ll start refocusing on where things matter I think electrics will become a niche part of every manufacturer is offerings but Ford unfortunately drank the Kool-Aid and was headed toward an all electric future which is not going to happen for anyone at this point Unless you are a startup like Rivian or Tesla.

IMOA, most of these recalls are software related.
And with a LOT of parts being made by "Third-party" vendors, theres the problem of compatibility.
Sure, the first sample a vendor supplies, works with everything. But, how do you know that that part, when it goes into production, is the same quallity. Do you have to "Test" each part from your vendor to guarantee no issues to bite you in the ass later...

My understanding about the Camera. Is that the Camera's memory is not being cleared of old data to make room for new data. And that circuit elements are embeded in the camera itself??
(if I am wrong, let me know... ;)).

I too have both recalls. Ford currently is still scrambling find a fix for both. But here's the Kicker. I was denied trading my truck in , as I've had multiple transmission issues that never end . I was told they wouldn't accept my trade because they can't re sell it. Needless to say I had some choice words about the dealership and Fomoco. How silly Ford has become. Months and months with no fix on the horizon for many recalls while most Ford vehicle owners are standing with your, you know what in your hand. I think it may be time to look elsewhere.
I feel for you. Not a good place to be in. Hopefully you will be able to get the results you need soon.

Let's not be too hard on Ford...other manufacturers are issuing recalls without being able to fix the problem. I've got a 2021 Toyota Avalon (I'd have bought a Ford if they still made sedans) with a passenger side airbag recall. The recall went out last September and Toyota still hasn't identified a fix. No idea when that will happen.

Whenever Ford is able to fix the battery and backup camera problem, I think the need to offer something to dealers and Maverick owners ($, extended warranty, ?) to .make up for the extra cost/inconvenience.

Every time I am backing up and I stop it freezes. LOL
