A couple of weeks ago my LEFT REAR (drivers side passenger) window stopped rolling. At first, it was sluggish and kind of loud, then it got completely stuck. Thankfully, it is stuck closed, so I haven't been in a rush to fix it. When I press the window button down, the door still makes a sound, but the window doesn't move. The motor in there is still turning somewhat. I read up on here and have seen that this is probably a common issue caused by the driver's window switch. I do plan on replacing that, but I'm not sure if I need to replace the motor and/or regulator. My mechanic friend listened to the sound it makes and thinks it's the regulator, but other forums I've read on here have said that the motor can burn up because of bad voltage sent by the driver controls.

Which of these 3 parts most likely should be replaced?

Where should I buy the parts? (I tried Rockauto but they don't have the motor)

I presume you are past the warranty mileage?? Process of elimination: I think do the window regulator first. Let us know what turns out to be the solution. Good Luck!

If still making noise in rear door, it could be the slider that needs to be engaged to pull it down - like a piece is just too far out of reach.

Had this happen in back of Rav4, where someone pushed down on window when it was at perfect height to cause max extension of sissor lift, which slipped off the end of it's rail and off track - so now stuck.

At some point someone really pressed down on window and bent the rail anyway, which allowed the later action to cause an issue.

But easy fix, once panel was off. Little bending back into line, slide lift wheel into rail, good to go.
Well, until next person partially rolls down window, and leans out with all their weight on it.

Got kids that might have pulled down on window when open?
Something off can add more load to the regulator motor making it move slower.
Or it's indeed bad. Seems tad early.

If you can use the switch, and the motor makes a noise, process of elimination is the regulator. But with the vehicle being so new, I'm guessing it's off track or something.

The good news is parts for these things are uber cheap. I own an old Volvo and was toying around with the idea of getting a newer one, $600 for one window regulator lol just as an example. Noped out of that.

Nothing should have messed with that window. It's probably my least used window.

Sounds like the motor is working and the switch clearly is. I'm guessing it either fell off the regulator or something got jammed in it. If it was me I'd pull off the door card and take a look to see if you can see what is going on in there. You might also pull off the other rear one so you can see how it is supposed to work if it isn't completely obvious.

Be careful if you undo any screws/bolts/etc. as some regulators can be tricky to get adjusted correctly. I've fixed a few in the past in Alfa Romeo's and BMW's, always fun!

Does the window go down if the back door switch is used? If it does then it's the front door switch assembly that's bad. If the back door switch doesn't work then you'll have to remove the door panel and check the regulator and motor out. If you remove the motor from the regulator check if you can move the window by hand. Good luck.

both switches cause the same noise but don’t move the window. I’m considering changing the driver switch because I’ve elsewhere that it can cause these problems.

Electrical items can't be returned, I would remove panel and put power to motor with a battery or jump box, if it works check the switch and inspect the regulator, it may be jammed but I would not buy anything till you look first... There are other posts about rear windows not working do a search see what they say before you do anything.

UPDATE: FIXED

I bought the regulator, motor, and driver switch online and had a mechanic friend help me replace them. The cables in the old regulator were bent up an out of place. It did appear that I was having the same issue as others, in that the driver switch was sending too much voltage to the window. Out of caution, I replaced the motor, though it may been unneccesary. The switch and regulator are musts. Everything has been working normal for the past week since repair.
