Has anyone had any issues with the rear plate screws and the plastic bumper? The dealer put on the original paper plate and then I had to get an extended paper plate while waiting on custom ordered plates. The plates arrived yesterday and when putting them on, it doesn't seem that the screws ever really tightened down. Just wondering if anyone else is seeing or having an issue?

If you keep turning the screws, you strip the hole. They're supposed to be just snug, they aren't going to come loose being a sheet metal screw in plastic.

The only issue I had was the fact that the dealer put the plate/frame on crooked. I fixed it when my permanent plate came by re-installing and actually using the supplied guide marks on the bumper. I have extra holes in my bumper now but they are behind the plate.

Yeah it's basically just holes drilled into plastic. No insert sleeve or anything. You might need a larger screw at this point. Not the most awesome design - lol

Thanks for the input. Was just looking if others ran into issues as I can see this might be a problem at some point.
Thanks again.

I haven't done it on my Mav (yet), but I have considered installing nutserts / rivnuts so that I could use machine screws and not screw into the plastic. I did on a VW that I had a while back and it worked perfect and I could remove and install the plate for cleaning without ever a problem.

Same here. Dealers are horrible when it comes to installing plates. Seems like you should not hand a drill and screwdriver to the least-skilled baboon in the place, but it seems like they alwas do.

I ran into a similar problem, the dealer installed really cheap hardware in the rear plate, I simply visited Walmart and purchased their hardware kit and installed it, everything worked perfectly.

I recommend stainless hardware to prevent any rusting issues - and my preference is actually black for looks.

Here is what I have used on the past two vehicles:

I've been using these plate "frames" as well, basically to eliminate sharp edges, eliminate any potential scratches or rattling, and put a nice finishing touch on the plate:

Little details...

Yes. It’s a poor design. Good for one or two times and you better be gentle.

You can buy screw kits on eBay that come with the plastic inserts. Got some on order. Ford didn't bother putting in any inserts which is stupidity
