Hey everyone. This is a question for those that have received their trucks and never paid a deposit when ordering. I have had someone tell me that the dealer could sell the truck out from under me once it arrives if I don’t pay a deposit. Has anyone dealt with this situation before?

I never had a problem nor did fear it could or would happen. I ask and they never requested a deposit. Everything was handled by phone and internet. I sent a copy of a signed purchase special order form with my drivers license scanned onto it signed and dated with my e-mail also on it. You should put as much research into the dealer as you do the vehicle. Small town (6000) dealership actually has a reputation to maintain.

I agree with Rexus. I'm in a small town and have two orders with no deposit. One local dealer I've used several times and one I ordered completely by phone about 25 miles away. I do have order printouts with price, order numbers/sales codes(verified with Ford), and email order confirmation.

Search this forum for the term "Buyer's Order" and you'll find lots of information on this subject. I think it has less to do with a deposit and more to do with what signed paperwork you have.

I never paid a nickel down and I got A plan. My sales person told me to to put nothing down and give nothing down on my 3 year lease. He even put on my tonneau and put that in the lease payment. Great service, advice and my Maverick came in 5 months. Pat Milliken Ford in Redford,MI with Sean Kelly was impressive with service, knowledge and above all integrity. 5 ⭐ dealer.

I did my build online and the dealer contacted me. I ended up sending him a picture of my DL. after a couple emails I had a confirmation in my email from Ford. My only problem was after the truck showed up they would not budge from the increased sticker price but I did get my $750 recent grad discount (only took 30 years). Still happy, they told me I could walk or turn around and sell it for more. No thanks, Keeping what I asked for.

I told him I was paying cash. He said ookay. If you're going that route we won't need a deposit

Got my Maverick from Lucas Ford in NJ. When I ordered it there was no down payment or signed commitment. Upon delivery there were no price hassles. Paid MSRP with no markup. Couldn't have been easier.

Ordered with no deposit, just a signed order sheet. They called me the day it rolled off the truck and I paid MSRP.

It's possible a dealer can do whatever they want though. Seems Ford doesn't have much control over dealers at the moment.

It all depends on the dealer but if you didn’t put down a deposit your at their mercy, with a refundable deposit you have more options with a non refundable deposit then you have some legal option. Bottom line the most important thing when ordering is the research on the dealer it self.

it depends on your dealer’s reputation. I used my local dealer and put nothing down and we signed no contract of any kind that I can remember. My truck was delivered and I was in and out in a matter of 45 minutes. All on a verbal agreement of msrp

Mine was a Very Smooth process and "Not Once" did I ever consider my dealer selling my truck out from under me with no deposit.

The "biggest secure" I have found is you "NEED" to get your dealer to sign (not just your salesperson, but the dealer GM) your DORA when you first start the order process. Just like any negotiation, if you don't have some type of signed paperwork these days, then Any Deal can fall through and they can do as they see fit. Remember, when Just A Hand Shake would do, now you have to have your bases covered and IMO, the signed DORA is that "Binding" document that stands between you and your dealer when you first order.

Not saying anything can't happen, but with the signed DORA, I felt that, I was more secure, even though, the thought never crossed my mind that they would go that low.

There is No Guarantee that they won't sale your vehicle when is comes in even with a deposit. This forum is full of people complaining that some crappy dealer did them wrong.

Really depends of your "Gut Feeling" when you first talk to your dealer.

I was very glad, my dealer had the No Deposit required.

Also remember: It's Just A Truck! If you don't put a deposit down and your dealer goes rouge, then you are out nothing, except time and effort - you can Always, go to another dealer and start over, except this time, you would know what to do and what not to do.

I really thought is was funny, that i was reading on this forum, that "some people" placed down Hundreds and even Thousands of "Non-Refundable" deposit dollars, which means, they are just "asking for it"! When you do this, the dealer is in Complete Charge and you, the cornered victim, has no option but hope and pray you got a good dealer!

My dad Always told me: THINK BEFORE YOU DO IT! I found that this is so true and especially with this "New Way" to purchase a vehicle. Be smart or you will be end up being dumb!!

Even with a deposit the dealer can sell the truck from under you. That's called breaking a contract. When a contract is broken both parties are typically reverted to the state before the contract, so you'd get your deposit back and the dealer keeps their Maverick.

Of course, the dealer may get other repercussions from Ford, but that applies to people without a deposit as well.
