I believe ECO mode may also reduce the fan speed for the climate system, but it's probably negligible at highway cruising. With the Hybrid in "L" you get maximum regen, same as getting a perfect 100% braking score every time you brake, but be warned, unlike EVs with 1-pedal driving, max regen in the MAV does NOT light the rear brake lights, so be careful if you're a lot of traffic. L does NOT have any effect on the e-CVT gear ratio or any other effect that I can find.
For max MPG I find ECO mode + L gives the best results, but it won't be very much different than just driving in normal mode. For a small pickup the Hybrid Mav already gets outstanding MPG in city/mixed driving.
