I just got my XL with the 17" steelies, and I wanted to change them out, so I ordered some aftermarket wheels out of Canada. They were $50 cheaper per wheel than any place in the U.S. and even with shipping I saved about $100. I'm also planning on buying tires at Sams Club because I have some discounts that will make them much cheaper than Tire Rack or Discount or any other local tire shop. But I don't trust Sams Club to mount tires on aftermarket rims and not mess them up. I've seen what they do to factory wheels and I don't want any part of that. I was planning on taking the wheels and tires to Discount Tire and have them put on the rims and balanced, and then putting them on myself in a month or so after the weather settles down here in Colorado. Has anyone here used Discount Tire for something like this? Discount is probably the most reputable tire store in my area, and since they deal with a lot of aftermarket wheel mounting, they'd be my first choice. If I decided to have them do the whole thing (mounting and balancing and swapping out), I'm not sure I trust any tire store to hoist the Maverick without messing up the pinch welds and the underside of the truck. The last couple of vehicles I had, had factory alloys and I usually had the dealership service/rotate the tires because I usually had some kind of package deal (oil change, tires, etc.) that included it. Since the dealership knows where and how to lift the vehicle, I knew there shouldn't be a problem. I haven't swapped out stock wheels for aftermarket in quite a while, and I just wondered if anyone else has any experience with any of these retail tire places. I've done plenty of service work on my own vehicles (tire rotation, oil changes, etc.) over the years so I'm totally comfortable with just getting the tires put on the wheels and bringing them to my own garage to swap out. I'm interested in hearing what any of the MTC members have done with their own truck when replacing the wheels and tires.
