I just got my XL with the 17" steelies, and I wanted to change them out, so I ordered some aftermarket wheels out of Canada. They were $50 cheaper per wheel than any place in the U.S. and even with shipping I saved about $100. I'm also planning on buying tires at Sams Club because I have some discounts that will make them much cheaper than Tire Rack or Discount or any other local tire shop. But I don't trust Sams Club to mount tires on aftermarket rims and not mess them up. I've seen what they do to factory wheels and I don't want any part of that. I was planning on taking the wheels and tires to Discount Tire and have them put on the rims and balanced, and then putting them on myself in a month or so after the weather settles down here in Colorado. Has anyone here used Discount Tire for something like this? Discount is probably the most reputable tire store in my area, and since they deal with a lot of aftermarket wheel mounting, they'd be my first choice. If I decided to have them do the whole thing (mounting and balancing and swapping out), I'm not sure I trust any tire store to hoist the Maverick without messing up the pinch welds and the underside of the truck. The last couple of vehicles I had, had factory alloys and I usually had the dealership service/rotate the tires because I usually had some kind of package deal (oil change, tires, etc.) that included it. Since the dealership knows where and how to lift the vehicle, I knew there shouldn't be a problem. I haven't swapped out stock wheels for aftermarket in quite a while, and I just wondered if anyone else has any experience with any of these retail tire places. I've done plenty of service work on my own vehicles (tire rotation, oil changes, etc.) over the years so I'm totally comfortable with just getting the tires put on the wheels and bringing them to my own garage to swap out. I'm interested in hearing what any of the MTC members have done with their own truck when replacing the wheels and tires.

In the long run, you're probably not going to save a whole lot of money over buying a pre-mounted set from Tire Rack or Discount Tire (same company now). You're going to pay a shop to mount and balance them, and I hate to say it--many shops "upcharge" this service if you don't buy the tires from them. The tire shop in my town charges $25 per tire if you bought from them and $50 if you bought elsewhere; it's BS, I and told them as much, so check around.

Anyway you look at it,you’re at the mercy of the person doing the work changing it all out.doesn’t matter what store you go to.i found a good man some years ago that treated the customers tires and wheel changes like they where his.i,ve followed him to 2 different tire stores over the years and never a complaint.plus i have a new friend😎

Unless you personally know the individual mounting your tires, the odds of damage are pretty much the same imo. If damage occurs, either of those corporations probably have reasonable means to remedy the situation. Take pics before and after if you're really concerned.

I'd take the free installation and warranty at Sam's.

Find a Mexican hole in the wall tire shop and stand next to the guy when he is doing the work 😁

I bought my after market wheels from Discount Tire & they remounted, balanced and offer free rotation and flat fixes for $22 per tire. I also have a classic car. Bought RWL OEM tires from Sam’s. Tire tech had owned same car and year many years ago. Saved $220 buying at Sam’s. He was extra careful and lined up valve stems at same letter on every tire and center wheel caps and tires were perfect when he lowered the lift. Happy with both places.

Here in the Northeast the biggest tire store is "Town Fair Tire". I bought 4 tires and rims from them this past winter. When you buy tires from them there is no charge for swap-over to your normal tires, however if they have to dismount and remount they do charge for balancing and maybe stems... Been buying tires (2nd set of rims from them as well) for my last 4 or more vehicles and have never had an issue. Just had my original equipment tires and rims put back on. Was in and out in less than an hour and no charge.

You did confirm the 5 x 108 bolt pattern on the rims you purchased from Canada?
Yep.. OEM fit.
been looking at these as a replacement for awhile.
I've seen a couple of other MTC members have them on their trucks as well.

The only issue that I had with Discount Tire was they would mount my new online purchased snow tires to my winter steel wheels, but refused to install them onto the truck. The truck had 275/65R 20" load index 126 tires on it that I installed when new and the 245/75R 17" load index 123 studded snow tires were just for winter commuting. Their policy is to match what your door sticker says. The OEM were 275/70R 18" load index 126. This was for my '22 F-350 and not my '25 Maverick. I now use J & L Alignment in Lebanon, KY as they are less expensive and get the work done quickly. ✔

When I bought tires on E-bay I opted for mounting at Tires Plus in E-town, KY so that I could have rotate and balance for life. I have OEM 19" on my Maverick now and both 17" and 20" sets for it.

Yeah...
Discount sells the same wheels that I bought from Canada, but when you list your vehicle, Discount says they are not compatible, which is dumb because the wheel company (RTX) makes them specifically for OEM applications. If you look up the wheel on the company website, it says it is a direct fit. That's why I wasn't sure about having them put on at Discount, and jumping through hoops because they claim they don't fit. I may see if Discount will price match Sams Club on the tires, and just bring the wheels to them to be mounted and balanced, and then bring them home and put them on myself in my garage. I have the tools (socket, floor jacks, torque wrench, etc.) so I trust myself better to do it anyway.

I like your style! I finally invested in an 20v battery electric 1/2" high torque impact gun. There's no loud air compressor nor hoses to drag around and I take it everywhere. My Maverick is my 6th truck. I'm getting closer to retirement, so I'll start selling some trucks.

I don't think the TPMS are the problem. It's the computer in the truck that's set up for 19" rims that might not understand what's going on. Although, I have seen posts on here from some other members that said earlier Mavericks (22-23) used one TPMS frequency and newer ones (24-25) used another. So maybe your '24 TPMS on the steelies might work?. That's why I bought some multi-frequency TPMS from NAPA auto parts to avoid the frequency problem.

A couple months ago I found rims, tires and sensors on Facebook marketplace. The owner was asking $500 but exceped my offer of $400. Next I went to mavis tire and had them installed and the sensors reset along with removing the doughnut and replacing it with my xl tire and steelies rim for the price of $53. I'm happy with the look of my new rims.
