Just went over 34,000 miles, and I have averaged well over 28mpg. Think about that. I have hundreds of quarter mile passes, about 75 of which are in the 12s, and I haven't had any issues with the drivetrain of this thing! Will it last 300k miles? Not if I can push it like I want, lol. But dang, these things are built extremely well drivetrain wise!

So you are turning 1500 rpm @ 55MPH? Or are you coasting at the time you took this picture?
Also, what are the two MPG rating on the dash mean (29.3 and 41.4)? Is the 29.3 the average and the 41.4 the instant MPG? Sorry for stupid questions, My Mav is coming in Oct

Yes, in 8th gear with the converter locked, it runs around that rpm at 55mph. You are also correct on the numbers, the 29.3 is over the 2k miles, and the 41 is instant. I normally run in Eco, because it locks the converter faster so it runs at that rpm more often.

Yeah, those high speeds will for sure bring it down a few mpg. It's all personal choice on speed. Thankfully my daily route is 80% 55mph zones, so I keep it around 60-62 most of the time.

The tremor is a whole different beast though, so I wouldn't be upset about almost 23mpg with it!

When I visited family in TN where the speed limits were much lower on the country roads I averaged well over 30.

I just so happen to live in the right suburb of Austin that the slowest speed limit on a highway near me is 75.

Well I'm back at it! This new focus of mine has been on aerodynamics! I've been playing with the idea of creating as little drag as possible, to streamline QuikRik down the track. I know that we have a short bed, and that the benefits of a tonneau cover are probably less for us, than say a full size truck with longer beds, but I decided to add one anyway.

I don't know how well it's working, but last night I drove 250 miles round trip to Chi-town, mainly at 80mpg, and I managed 30.7mpg, so I'd say it's definitely not hurting it, lol.

That really isn't the focus of this post though, at least not entirely. The bigger project, was creating a rear belly pan to help streamline the air UNDER the Mav!

You are 100% allowed to laugh at my work, as it uses hardwood and 1x2 wood, lol. I'm doing this for proof of concept, and it's held up just fine up to very high speeds. It probably would have been easier to do this with CAD(cardboard aided design), but I didnthave any sheets large enough, so this was fine, and turned out pretty good. Enjoy the pics, and laugh at the terrible welds and materials used! Haha.

wow, that weld is terrible. but at least it's only holding up the center of the bed.. the bed rated at 1500 pounds of load.

I can confirm that my Ford soft tonneau cover is good for 1-2 mpg at highway speeds. I drive a lot for work, and a lot of it is the same chunks of highway, and I have my tonneau cover off if I've been hauling MTBs on my tailgate pad.

Looks great! On a different end of things I really need to make something like this out of steel. I popped the rear scoop( bumper I mean) off on one side offroading. It really not a great setup. I need to make something similar for a skid plate.

Also, I forgot to include weights. The Tonneau Cover is 22lbs, and the rear belly pan and tie down bar come in at 11lbs, so I have added 33lbs.

I read your whole thread over and maybe you posted somewhere else, did you ever resolve your map sensor topping out? I'm currently flat lining on boost, right around 22.3 which would make the sensor a 1.5 bar. I know ford makes a 2.5 bar but figured it would be easier to ask then delving over parts #s lol

According to 5Star, when I sent them pics of the MAP on the intake mani, that sensor is the same as the newer 3.5 ecoboosts and is a 3 bar. I don't know what sensor the X4 is reading to only be 22.5psi, but the ecu is probably fine to 29psi, but I do not know that for a fact. Either way, without fueling mods, I'm at the limit of the fuel anyway.

I just looked, and it appears there is another sensor down a little farther on the intake tube, between the intercooler outlet and the throttle body. I'm going to try to get some pics of the part number to research if this is the 2.5bar sensor that I am seeing top out.

Hello Maverick folk! Today's lesson is a chemistry one! Today we are looking at becoming meth heads!!! I have been debating how to add fuel, without breaking the bank. After many datalogs with 5Star, my E30 tune is keeping up on the high pressure fuel pump, but seemingly not with injectors. So, instead of spending $700+ on injectors, I have started to look into water methanol injection.

Let's start with what that will do when injected. It will cool the intake charge, add octane, and as an extra benefit it will clean the valves! On it's own, it most likely won't add any power, unless the tune was already pulling some timing due to it seeing knock. When you add in a new tune, to take advantage of the extra octane, you can add more timing, and if you have enough fuel more boost as well! I don't think I can get more boost out of my turbo, but if someone had a larger turbo, like Ivan's 57mm turbo, the gains could really escalate!

So here is my plan. I plan to make my own methanol mixture, by using common things found at the store. I looked and the SDS sheets for a few different windshield washer fluids, as well as the product Heet, which I'm sure you have heard of.

-20 windshield washer fluid from places like Wal-Mart, Dollar General, and most gas stations has a methanol content by weight of 30-40%, and my suspicion is closer to 30%, but for any calculations, I will be using 40%, as you never want to go over 50% methanol unless the kit is specifically for it, and most are set up for 50/50 max. That 30-40% methanol content comes straight from the SDS sheets. So, right out of the box this fluid would work well, but I'm planning to have the best version I can, meaning as close to 50% as possible.

So in comes Heet, where the SDS sheet shows it's 100% methanol. This can be confusing, as it's technically not 100%, but in the world of rounding, anything over 99.5% is concidered 100% when rounding to the whole percent, so we will just use 100%!

I have used my E85 blending calculator to show that the mixture needed is .17 gallon Heet to .83 gallon washer fluid gets us to an assumed 50% water/meth mixture. In Oz that's 22oz Heet, to 106oz washer fluid.

Price breakdown:

So, the normal person would probably ask: Don't they make a fluid already mixed for this?!?! And yes they do! Boost Juice is 49%meth/51%water, but it's typically sold in 4 gallon increments, at a cost of $50-60. We will assume $50, and not account for shipping. That's $12.50/gallon.

The mix I plan to use is as follows:
1 gallon -20 washer fluid $3.66
2 bottles of Heet (24oz) $4.16
So thats $7.82/gallon.

There is another option, and that is mixing pure methanol with distilled water. I haven't looked into the price of straight methanol by the gallon, but it appears a place sells it for $15-16/gallon. So if you mixed that 1:1 with distilled water, at $1.35/gallon, you could potentially have the best mixture for roughly $8.18/gallon, and none of the addititves from the washer fluid.

Ok, that's just the lesson that was on my mind, as I haven't done this yet, lol. However, this is a great and viable option to adding injectors, and possibly finding out a hpfp is needed as well!
