Price Protection for 2022 models?

I was just offered a "deal" to purchase a Maverick that came in from Ford from the dealer rather than wait for my ordered on to arrive.(looks like early Sept. 2022). The mark up was 10k. I asked if I should expect a similar mark up on my ordered vehicle and the dealer said they usually mark up half of what the market calls for. I thought we had price protection on our orders?
Anyone know anything about this? Ford customer service mentioned and suggested I ask the dealership if I qualify. What is the qualification? Ordering a vehicle and waiting relatively patiently for a year?

Others more knowledgable than I can chime in but I was under the impression they cannot markup special orders just dealer stock inventory. At any rate, I'm getting the final price in writing and signed by the Sales Manager or I walk. I only like surprises on Xmas and my birthday and I do not expect my Maverick to come in on either day.

What do they mean "what the market calls for"? Is the market calling for a 10K markup thereby creating the most expensive basic vehicle for sale in America? I would not trust that dealer for a second.

Yes, you do have price protection both in price and the interest rate incentive applicable at time of ordering IF they filled out the Smart Vincent form correctly meaning they pushed the price protection radio button on the online form.

I would run, not walk, away from that dealer quickly. Total scum-bag move on their part if they are adding "market adjustments" so customer orders. I am all about capitalism. If they have a Stock order or an order a customer legitimately refused, they should be able to mark it up as much as they want. However, if it is a custom order and they set the expectation that it would be sold at MSRP (or what-ever), then adding an ADM, "extra" packages, etc is strictly scum-bag. However, at least they told you that (so guess we can't call them total scum-bags) so you can go find a better dealer.

Factory price protection (for '22s delivered within '22 model year) applies to the price offered by the manufacturer on the original date of the order (as opposed to any variance in pricing on the date of sale).

Any additional fees, mark-ups, etc. charged beyond the protected price fall within the sole purview of the individual dealership and are entirely independent of the manufacturer.

I went to my local dealer, Girard Ford in Norwich, first and was told they would mark up ordered vehicles $3,000, "Everyone is doing it." And I said "Thank you" and walked. Found a dealer that was a capitalist but not a greedy capitalist. I ordered from them. It was a pleasant experience.
