hi, I’ve worked for multiple brands and have a solid understanding on how pre collisions work. I’m a technician, I literally fix these BS problems all the time. First of, people need to understand these systems are designed mainly for free ways. When you’re cruising at road speed LIMITS. I have a XL maverick with co pilot and had my pre collision active 3 times of my 3 month ownership. Gotta admit it’s a crappy system that barely works. Don’t trust the typical marketing persuasion that it will save you.. it won’t.. at best it will reduce the collision impact and MAYBE save your life if your lucky. TheFord pre collision system on the maverick is crap because it relies solely on 1 radar system.. when premium cars have over 5 different sensors. At this price point I don’t expect it to work at all, much even trust it with my life. I’m just happy copilot gave me blind spot indicators. That’s the only benefit I see in this package. People need to understand at this price point you cannot expect perfection or even near perfection. Let’s keep the expectations realistic. You should remain focused while driving… atALL times. Don’t rely on a garbage cheap system with your life.
Of course im not going to rely on it, but I would like to know if its functional or not so I can get it fixed under warranty. I paid for a new car , so you would think everything works on it.

I got it to work by literally driving up to a parked vehicle on the side, the alert came on. But I have the settings at low, gotta have balls to test the system. Don’t recommend trying it

Maybe it didn’t activate because you were already braking? Mine hasn’t gone off yet either. I hope that’s a good thing!
Yeah, but don’t test this theory!!! 😂😂😂

So I can only speak to my experience, and I'll own it fully LOL

My understanding is the base system (I have XL with no CP360) works up to 45 MPH, will alert you and you can activate emergency braking as an option. I have sensitivity on high, and I kept teasing it to try and trigger it by easing my foot onto the brake slowly and stopping harder near the end - never triggered. Chalked it up to crappy system meant to check a box and gave up on it.

Then I got distracted at exactly the wrong moment - passenger pulled up my console tray with my phone still on it, phone toppled, I naturally glanced down and that was the moment the car in front of me randomly (and I mean RANDOMLY) slammed their brakes in the middle of the road. Red screen pop-up, trilly panicked noise, and I slammed my brakes - whether that was before or after the auto braking kicked in I'll never know. It definitely stopped me from rear-ending someone though.

Do I trust it fully? Not exactly. Do I think its another level of protection that might make a difference? Yeah, I do now.

So it finally went off, It works. Good to know there's extra protection incase of an emergency.

Was searching for info on the pre-collision system.
Have an xlt with co-pilot and have my setting on high.
Had a couple close calls driving on secondary roads under 50mph with no Alerts.
Was hoping to find out how Ford tests their pre-collision system.
Probably just checking the electronics an nothing physical.
Thanks for all the info

Not sure on your credibility since you've said this relies on 1 radar sensor. The XL has no forward facing radar, only a windshield camera - the pre-collision and auto braking are camera based. The Lariat Luxury is the only trim with a forward facing radar.

They work fine. The camera based system in our Kia worked just fine. We can agree, though, that it is up to the driver to pay attention and maintain control at all times. But these systems - even the camera ones - do provide support in real, emergency situations.

Mine works but it’s pretty useless. It has only turned on when I was driving in the right lane and a bus was stopped up ahead and I had to floor it to pass someone to the left of me. The assist turned on only once I was 20 feet away from the bus. In the event of a real accident, there’s no way I would have been able to stop in time.

It also turned on once when I was driving through a windy canyon road and someone in front of me pressed on their brakes to make a left turn onto a dirt road. That might be helpful in a real life accident scenario but even with the sensitivity on high, it’s still too late.

The sound it makes is more likely to give you a heart attack than help you avoid an accident.

I don’t see how this meets safety guidelines. I wish Ford would have just left that out and put in a higher resolution backup camera instead.
Maybe not floor it to get in front of the person who doesn't have an obstruction in their lane. Might've been easier to slow down instead of speeding up. Just two cents from someone who was a firefighter for 10 years.....

So the other day the car infront of me stopped suddenly and I had to slam on my brakes to avoid hitting them, No alert, So since then Ive tried everything I can think of to make an alert pop up and I get nothing. I Have all the setting enabled in the menu but I get nothing. Can some one who has it working give me some info on when it triggers or some kind of test mode or any general info you think would be helpful is appreciated. Thanks
Good to know I wasn't the only one. That feature is crap, it doesn't actually work at all even as a warning. The sensors must be pretty crap. Lane Keep and Blind spot are great though.

I was stopped waiting on an oncoming car to make a left turn into a shopping center. After it passed I started my turn but the collision system activated ,applied the brakes, shut off the engine and the red collision avoidance light and warning alarm came on.If there was traffic behind me they may have rear ended me.Afewmoments later it restarted or I restarted it,I can’t remember.I have tried to duplicate this situation with no success. My dealership says I have no codes based on my vin.I have an appointment next week.I am wondering if perhaps I initiated my turn before the oncoming car had completely passed me and this caused it?But I don’t think so.

Eco with copilot.
Wow I was going to add copilot to my XLT Eco when pushed to a 23 but after reading your post I think I will just drive old school.
