Powertrain malfunction/reduced power warning

Does anyone who’s had this know exactly what fails with the rear differential/awd system on these trucks? My 22 XLT with 2.0 Ecoboost and AWD that I bought brand new just hit 76k miles. The tool light and warning message has been coming up on the dash, rear diffs been getting noisy and it’s especially noticeable on tight turns in parking lots. Reminds me of the feeling of brakes dragging on rear drums/worn out wheel bearings. Warranty’s long expired. What’s the fix for this and how much does it cost?
