I just received an email from "Ford" saying that I need to setup my payment plan. The link looked like it was not spam, but I do not owe Ford anything.

Very convincing, but it's from "click.e.fordcredit.com," not a real Ford domain.

OP - sure someone at the dealership didn't set something up for you?
They may have even just run you thru the Ford system during negotiations in the hopes they would get you for financing. Mine did, even though I said I already had it. Then returned just slightly beating my Credit Union, then did better on further request.

Eh - fordcredit.com is the domain - appears legit with Ford handling the DNS for it.
Pre-amble on the domain doesn't matter, because indeed - it can't go anywhere.

Fordcredit.com is not the domain in the email.

The "e" is a subset of the fordcredit domain.

It is actually a legit domain for Ford.

Look at my ETA bottom of post - shows you where the link goes.

A domain owner can add pre-ambles to their domain to make things specific, as opposed to just pointing to folders like potentially ford.com/e/credit for English Credit say.

ETA:
It does add to the expense to have to wild card a domain for security like that, compared to using the folder method.
Leave it to Ford to do the more likely expensive method.

Yes it is. "E" is the host name, more likely a cluster, but fordcredit.com is the domain.
