My original plan was to find some 17" aluminum rims to replace my steelies, and transfer the Conti tires over. Would have been happy to go with some 17" XLT takeoffs that included tires, but wasn't able to find anything at a reasonable price. I found a good deal on some Bronco Sport 18" takeoffs, so plan B was to mount some 225/60/18s like the Lariats have, to match the original diameter and width. But for grins, I threw the 18's on the truck, with the worn out 265/60/18s they came with. I actually really like the way they look, the bigger tires fill the fender wells nicely, giving it a beefier look. But I'm concerned about gas mileage and driving dynamics. Does anyone have measured mpg differences they can share (adjusted for the slower counting of miles with the larger diameter)? Any other concerns with the bigger tires? There is no rubbing, and acceleration is not noticeably impacted, so I guess mpg and hydroplaning resistance are the only issues I can think of.

p.s., I would post a picture, but I'll have to contact the admin to figure why it won't let me.

Make sure your mods aren't very much heavier than your OEM wheels/tires. If you have the dreaded CV/axle issues under warranty, the dealer may try to blame the problem on your mods.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I was doing, and added pictures successfully before. It just wouldn't do anything when I clicked the box that comes up next. When in doubt restart the system, now it works. I quite like the look. I will try to research the weight, but does anyone have actual experience running them?

Those look great, I didn’t think 265’s would fit however if you don’t have any rubbing problems then continue. If you want to check discount tire or tire rack, etc should have weight listed on all tires and overall dimensions too

You're sacrificing actual performance and potentially damaging axles for "looks", plus mpg loss.
Wildpeak trails don't even come in that size, but at 255/65r18 they weigh 41 lbs - 8-11 lbs heavier than closer to OEM sizes.

Use a full AT tire and it's even worse.

I wouldn't, but if you prefer the look, go for it!

I had these 265/60/18 on My AWD Maverick. They fit perfect and no rubbing with the stock suspension. They drove very nice and I was happy with the look. The tires & Wheels went on at 36 miles and came off at 1800 miles. I put the stock steelies back on when I traded it in. I definitely know I took a hit on the MPG, but I have nothing to compare it to. I still have the 18x8 (et 40) wheels and Hankook ATM tires with the TPM mounted and balanced. (they are available for purchase if anyone is interested) Just over 2 k miles on the tires.

I would not recommend this size for a Hybrid.

Thanks for the input. I can confirm they don't rub, and don't noticeably affect the drivability. But the whole point of getting the hybrid was fuel efficiency, so I don't want to spoil that just for looks. If it's no more than 5%, that would be OK, but I don't want to go from 40 to 35. Does anyone have some real world numbers?
Here's some weight info I've found on the web, if anyone else is curious:
Stock steelies: 27#
Aluminum Bronco Sport 18's: 23#
Stock Conti tires: 23#
Pirelli Scorpion Verde 265/60/18 currently mounted: 36#
Michelin Primacy 225/60/18: 26#
Michelin Primacy 245/60/18: 30#
Michelin Primacy 265/60/18: 33#

So if I mirror the set up the Lariat has, It would be the same diameter and width, and a smidge less total weight. Everything goes up from there.

To close the loop on this, I'll share my experience. Just drove a bit over 100 miles on the freeway, plus some around down. After adjusting for the error in indicated speed and distance, I saw about a 20% increase in fuel consumption. It's impossible to do a precise controlled experiment, and it was windy on the "after" test day, but it's a big enough difference that even if it's not exact it's not worth it for styel. So I'll look a little bit longer to see if I can find some 17" rims to move my Continentals to, otherwise I'll bite the bullet and buy new 225/60/18s.

I would do the 235/60/18 instead of the 225.
