Plans changed. Don't need a truck anymore.

Can someone sanity check me - I ordered a hybrid lariat lux with BAP.

Any reason not to cancel? Haven't gotten scheduled or anything.

If you like to have options, don't cancel. If for some reason you don't like options, cancel away. It's really not complicated.

Even if you tell the dealership to cancel the order, they won’t cancel it, they will keep it on order and sell it for a big profit to a walk-in customer.

Sorry I wasn't clear my bad.

I am not super versed in how this goes down - I signed some paper loosely committing to the order. It was basically an order sheet. Standard.

I'm only concerned about it getting built/scheduled and then being bound to purchase.

I'm sure if it's delivered to the dealership and you say you don't want it, they are probably OK with selling it to someone else assuming the demand is still there which I'm sure it will be.

I could always have a significant change of heart, my father could want a truck, etc the option is great.

The potential to flip the thing is great too

I just don't want to get stuck buying a truck I don't need so cancelling felt intuitive, but your phrasing makes me think it's a bone head move (?)

The Lariat Lux Hybrid (BAP) doesn't seem to fetch much more than MSRP and sales tax used.

I don't think I can flip it for anything unless Carvana is still paying insane prices, but I thought they'd basically imploded.

If they want to sell it above MSRP, I don't think I can really transfer the order to anyone or anything either.

I felt the same. I ordered in 11-15-21. Finally getting delivered in the next week or so but between then and next week I thought about canceling multiple times but always decided to just leave it. Now I'm glad I did. I was going to get another EV but after thinking about it, it was better to have a gas car / hybrid in the house to complement our other EV. You won't be bound to buy it the dealer will be stoked that you won't take delivery but before it actually shows I'd just leave it.

If/when it ever gets built & delivered, you are not obligated to purchase. That would be the proper time to exercise whatever option you choose. "Canceling" now eliminates any potential future option for you. As mentioned, the dealer will keep the order active whether you cancel or not, and you just transfer the option to them.

We 'cancelled' ours, and months later got a notice it was going to get built. Went back and re-gave them a refundable deposit, and waited another 6months

If you want to keep it as an option to purchase, just leave it. If you call the dealership to cancel, my guess is they change the priority code to 10 and try to have it built as dealer inventory to sell, possibly with a chunk of ADM to pad their profit.

You will be under no obligation to buy it. If you want to "soft cancel" it, ask your dealer to change it to an ecoboost and then say you aren't interested when it arrives. They get a truck to sell and that's one more hybrid going to a customer that ordered it. 🤷‍♂️

Order sheet is not a legally binding contract on either side. How was your experience with the dealer so far? If they were competent and communicative as the process moved along, I would just wait and see if it actually gets built and arrives at your dealer maybe 50/50 chance. If you get a call telling you it is there and come finalize sale and you still don't want it, but you would consider buying from them in the future- I would only then tell them you won't be completing the purchase. This may build some good will with them for a future order, or at least Good Karma because you did the right thing. (y) Otherwise it will go away on it's own.
