Hey folks, I finally got around to fitting a Pipeline Racks bike rack in the Mav.
After a bit of assembly and test-fitting I was sure it would work. It's supposed to rest against the front of the bed, but with the tri-fold cover that was impossible.
I decided to make a spacer out of 2x6 and 2x4.
I spray painted it with Rustoleum hammered matte black to get it to somewhat match the spray-in bed liner.
I cut up an old yoga mat to glue to it as a cushion.
It's set to fit in the front notch.
I used a chain to secure it to the upper front cleat and a bungee to secure it to the bed hook.
I used bungees to secure it to the rear bed hook.
The front wheels are secured with Velcro straps.
(The stronger ones came in.)
I use another bungee to hold the frame down.
Of course, with the tonneau cover up, I can't see out of the rear window. I was concerned about keeping an eye on my load...
...So I got a wireless backup camera with a magnetic base.
It connects via Wi-Fi to my old cell phone (that no longer has a SIM card in it.) I found out that when I use my active phone it'll lose connection to the backup camera as soon as the phone connects to the Maverick.
The resolution is pretty good.
So off to the bike path I go.
I have a couple of trailer hitch mount carriers as well. I prefer this method. The exception will be when my wife and I are taking the bikes on vacation and will need the bed for luggage.
The other thing I have to figure out is how to lock the bikes to the truck if I ever have to walk away from it. I could loop a chain to the bed hooks, but the hooks can be unbolted. Thoughts? Thanks.
