This is on an XLT, not a Lariat. But there is a hole for the key mechanism only on the driver's side. The passenger side handle is blank -- no hole at all.

Unless the Lariat is different, there doesn't seem to be any way that the passenger side handle you show in the picture (with the hole) could be the original one from the factory.

Yep looks like they put the handles back on the wrong sides.
Honestly, the tech working on it probably swapped the two front handles to test the touch sensors. If the problem went with the handle, it's a bad handle, but if it stayed with the door, there's a wiring issue. The handle is the easiest part to change, and swapping before replacing confirms a bad handle. They probably didn't realize and/or forgot the lock cyl cover is part of the handle on the Mav. Older Fords have that cover as a separate bezel.

As long as the dealer owns the mistake, I wouldn't be too worried about it.

Here's an older Escape handle for reference.

Take it back to the dealer and show the advisor you spoke with earlier the screw up by the tech. If it's as simple to swap as mentioned before, you should be in and out in a jiffy.

Funny but I can see how annoying it could be.

parts guy ordered the wrong side I promise you! Passenger side should be closed no hole. If they look at the old part they can see it! They have to hold onto the old part until the warranty claim is paid and approved to toss or send back!

Yah they swapped the handles by mistake but I took the truck back and they fixed it.

Unless they put the wrong handle.. usually a missing lock means a car has been targeted for theft…. Thieves use a tool to grab the lock cylinder to dupe the key and they come back later with a duped key.. ..
with the cylinder they can also obtain the factory code to program the duped key.

dealers can order a new key, but like in any organization, you can also have bad employees

its probably not your case,, but just keep your eyes open..
