As I backed into my garage I saw a message pop up telling me it was DL an update. I put the truck into ACC and now I am sitting in it watching it slowly DL… would it DL if I turned off the truck. I am going to let it finish but I would like to know for the future… this is the first update it has had (that I know about) in the year that I have owned it!

My experience has been that the download stops when you turn it off. I think this is the same one I've been struggling to get... it takes so long. And i haven't figured out what kind of settings i need for it to connect while just going down the road.

Little risky, if an update fails you could be left with an un-drivable vehicle that would require service.
no, because currently only infotainment gets flashed OTA and if the infotainment were dead that would be extremely annoying, but it wouldn't be undriveable.

some day they can/will do more updates like that, and yes, I suppose that's possible.

so far after 3 years with my wife's sync4a equipped Bronco, the worst that has happened is that a 'mandatory' update would not apply and every time you started the vehicle it would pester you about installing an update... but it would not install.

this went on at least a month, maybe even 2. then magically it went away as they pushed another update to remove this one. and then a month or so after that, we got a successful update.

My understanding from this and other posts is that the OTA updates may only be done via a WIFI connection. That works for me if the update is requested while the truck is in the garage still turned on, (not running). Question, can we push a pending update to force it during a convenient time?

Your profile says 2025 Lariat, you have Sync4. It can do Sync4 updates over cellular or wifi. Users cannot update it via any other means, such as a usb stick.

Check your manual and poke around in the update options. You can choose day of week and time of day for automatic updates. It'll go as scheduled unless the truck is in deep sleep.

So, while driving, if you use your phone as a hotspot then maybe it would finish the update? The download on my very fast wifi connection while sitting in my garage has never completed. I'm not wasting my time sitting in my truck. This update process is ridiculous; this is not 1999 on a 21kb modem.
