Just back from a Firestone shop. I've had a slow leak, takes about 3 days to go from 38 psi to 20. I did pull a tiny pin the other day. Didn't remember where it stuck in.

I have the Michelin 225/60 R18 Primacy. They want $380 for ONE tire! They did find the leak, it is on the sidewall.

So online shopping I go. I just can't accept $380 for one tire.

Oh, I only have 5,403 miles on my '24 Lariat BAP, who's 1 year birthday is in 4 weeks!

I had TWO of my OEM tires get sidewall punctures when my Lariat was less than a year old. And they happened within 5 weeks of each other - not much you can do because OEMs don't come with road hazard. I found a couple of inexpensive tires to replace them with, thinking they would wear out about the same time as the remaining OEMs.

I've never been a fan of Firestone here in Ca. But they were close & for flat repair came recommended.

Have one ordered with installation appointment Friday from America's Tire store. $199, with install & tax OTD for $239. Little military discount there.

Only 5K miles on the rest. They will wear out about the same time. Besides the way I drive, that's probably longer than I will own the truck. I don't see myself needing/wanting a truck after 80. I'll be changing to a little red two door convertible. With a trunk just big enough for my walker. :)

I was channeling my best Billy Mays.
The fix a flat will clog most holes, it makes a mess of the interior and rim but if you are in a pinch it may get you to somewhere you can get the tire replaced.
This was the "spare tire" in my mini cooper. a can of fix a flat and a pump that plugged into the cigarette lighter

A tiny pin in the sidewall begs the question of how it got there...
That's a real shame. I always wonder about how much difference in circumference you can have between tires before it begins to manifest problems like wear in the differential spiders. If you have 2 each of different tires, you can at least rotate them to the same axle together.

It was a little round plastic foot off some furniture or something. With a tiny needle that held it to a leg.

I pulled it out, but thought it was in the tread, not side wall. Didn’t give it a second thought until 4 or 5 days later when I got a low pressure warning.

I wouldn't at all be surprised if the hole is very patchable and the firestone shop is lying to you saying the tire must be replaced. they certainly quoted it high enough so I wouldn't be surprised if they lied about the ability to repair; I hear about tire shops doing this all the time.

first thing I'd do is go somewhere else for a repair quote.

if you do replace the whole tire, you literally could join costco and buy a tire from them and still come out ahead. if you're already a member, great.

Discount tire, always get the hazard warranty certificate for the extra 25- 30 bucks each, well worth it over the years I have dealt with them . I am sure Firestone has a similar certificate as well.

1. I had a slow leak on my xlt. Turned out to be a loose valve stem insert.

road hazard is included free with tires bought from tirerack.com. I never buy it separate and I've never had cause to use such a guarantee. they're all prorated anyway, so if you go 40k miles then get a hazard, you don't get much payout.
