Hello! There is a lot of good information in these 10 pages! Certainly, a lot of stuff I didn't know. What I can contribute is my newbie experience with a crazy daily commute and a Hybrid. I am on my third week of owning my 2023 XLT Hybrid. I bought it certified used with 24K miles on it for an amazingly good price. My main goal was to not have to fill up the gas tank every other day in my 104-mile round trip to work M-F. It has been mostly cold since I got it. Not as cold as it could be but definitely below freezing. I have learned from this thread that maybe I shouldn't be at all sad that I don't have heated seats and steering wheel! I have learned from joining MTC that I will get better mileage when warmer...and saw that on my 65-degree day last week! I don't think I can adequately give solid numbers to my driving high speed highway versus city because it is a mess, but I can describe it! I live in a suburb and take mostly rural roads for about 9 miles to the highway. In the morning this 9 miles is mostly smooth sailing with one school zone in the middle. In the evening there is a lot of stop and go from traffic and people turning. Once I am on the highway, I have a very heavy foot and am grateful for Waze telling me when I should slow down
. I am always at 75-85 at these points in the trip. Eventually I hit traffic for no reason other than I am nearing a big city. Always annoying stop and go traffic has turned into a game to see if I can keep it in Electric without making the people behind me mad. Eventually I get through and make it back up to 75 mph before getting off and taking only 1.5 miles in the city before work. Same in the evening except the stop and go traffic is worse and longer and closer to the start of the drive. Now that you have a picture of the circumstances, I've seen between 34 and 35 mpg on a particularly cold and low traffic day. I would say I consistently average around 37 on my "normal" days. I was very excited to find that on the 65-degree day, I hit 40.5 mpg for the 52-mile drive home! I don't recall if the traffic was worse because I didn't realize at the time to pay attention to that aspect. I did play my EV Coach game all the way home. I did go fast when possible. I am about a dozen miles short of only filling up once for the 520-mile week but am hoping warmer weather will push me over the edge. Either way, I am thrilled. I am going to have to make the sacrifice of only half the towing capability when I wanted to get a one-to-two-person shelter, but daily work drive was a bigger deal to me. Also, I haven't tried Eco mode yet. Maybe I will! Good luck on your decision.
