When I bought this XLT in April, I couldn't get any heat from the heater. Took it back to the Ford salesman, and after tinkering with it for a while, it blasted hot air. Now it's cool out again, and same problem. Am I missing something, or is there an issue with the heater?

I can't recall anyone else posting about an issue like that. However, if does work on max heat, then it could be an issue with the cabin temp/humidity sensor or something similar and sensor or module related.

if it's really delivering heat on max heat, then one would think that the heater core and HVAC blend door are both working.

certainly, this would be covered under the 3/36 warranty.

Do you have it on auto fan? What temperature do you have it set at? Mine is on auto and I have it set to 72 so it cools and heats accordingly. Sometimes it'll blow cool air even if it's in the mid 50s because the inside of the car is warmer than my 72 setting. I'm sure you don't have it on auto but figured one more thing to check off the troubleshooting list.

I've tried about every setting; auto on/off, AC on/off, etc. Looks like it'll be going back to the dealer. . .
Thanks for your responses.

Have the exact same issue on mine (picked it up 3 weeks ago and noticed on Sunday night)… please post what the dealer says!

Got the truck back from the dealer today. This does not make a lot of sense to me, but this is what the service manager said: In the winter, hot air is only directed to the windshield and from the vents on each top end of the dash. He said (and this is the part that does not make much sense to me) people complained that they did not want air blasting at them from the lower dash vents (but it does in the summer!) so in 2024 they made a change to only sending heat from the vents on top of the dash.

My experience last spring was that this was not enough to even start to warm the cab.
Pressing the buttons to direct air to the floor or the front of the dash turns off "auto" and will then send hot air (lots of it) from these vents to quickly warm the cab.

He copied some pages from the manual showing how the A/C system works, but it did not mention that on auto, heat only will come from the top vents.

Actually, it does.
AKA - Defrost vents.

Climate Control Hints

General Hints
  • Prolonged use of recirculated air may cause the windows to fog up.
  • You may feel a small amount of air from the footwell air vents regardless of the air distribution setting.
  • To reduce humidity build-up inside your vehicle, do not drive with the system switched off or with recirculated air always switched on.
  • Do not place objects under the front seats as this may interfere with the airflow to the rear seats.
  • Remove any snow, ice or leaves from the air intake area at the base of the windshield.
  • To improve the time to reach a comfortable temperature in hot weather, drive with the windows open until you feel cold air through the air vents.
Automatic Climate Control
  • Adjusting the settings when your vehicle interior is extremely hot or cold is not necessary. Automatic mode is best recommended to maintain set temperature.
  • The system adjusts to heat or cool the interior to the temperature you select as quickly as possible.
  • For the system to function efficiently, the instrument panel and side air vents should be fully open.
  • If you press AUTO during cold outside temperatures, the system directs air flow to the windshield and side window air vents. In addition, the blower motor may run at a slower speed until the engine warms up.
  • If you press AUTO during hot temperatures and the inside of the vehicle is hot, the system uses recirculated air to maximize interior cooling. Blower motor speed may also reduce until the air cools.
