Hey, does someone have hints / instructions on how to remove the plastic trim ?
Ford Maverick 12V battery swap - YouTube
The cite above shows guy removing the plastic trim.
hopefully this helps.

I have seen couple others on you tube removing their 12v battery without removing the trim. Most difficult part was the red cover over positive terminal didn't have space to remove it off terminal.

So after removing the hold down clamp with an extension and a magnet extension because hand not a lot of room to reach down and grab bolt. But once remove the hold down clamp then push the battery few inches towards front seat.

then there is space to remove that red cover off terminal so you can remove bolt from the +pole on battery. next pull the battery up and out of its occupied space

Stupid question but could you turn the battery 90 degrees and fit something truly huge? You'd probably have to make a new hold down but that's fairly minor.

I don't have a hybrid but it seems like this is something of a consistent problem for them so I just got thinking about it when I saw this post.
The Hybrid does not need a bigger battery to run a started and other stuff. It could actually use a much smaller battery since all it does is the lights and electronics support. The battery failures are a symptom of the incorrect charging algorith that never fully charges the battery and stops significant charging 5 minutes after start. Most people are driving around with 50-60% charge and that's causing heavy battery sulfation and very short battery life as a result.

The factory battery is a T4 size. An H4 will fit without modifications, as it is slightly taller and has the same footprint. If you move to an H5 size, you will need to bend down the backside of the mounting plate, as it has a larger footprint. With a T4 or H4 you do not need to remove the plastic trim at all, but with an H5 you will in order to ben down the back of the mounting plate.

Just get an H4 size instead, and make sure that you reconnect the outgassing hose since the battery is inside the cabin airspace.

Apparently Ford is working on yet another fix for the unexpected battery drawdown, known as SSM 54519 and will be released in Q2. However we still have no idea when they will be releasing the fix for the wrong algorithm in the charging software that is causing any battery to sulfate and die an early death.

How can I increase the charging from 60% to 80 or so without equipment? Is there a way without a program?

Batch at Ford for a charging algorithm fix. There is a setting for charge percentage visible on a technicians screen, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

What was the purpose of the 5 highbeam flashes at the end? Does that cause the ECU to do something?

Edit: Ah, I see now.

Flashing the high beams 5 times in a Ford Maverick (with ignition in "On"/accessory mode, engine off) is the manual procedure to reset the Battery Management System (BMS), often done after replacing the 12V battery. Follow this by pressing the brake pedal 3 times within 10 seconds; the battery light should flash to confirm.

BMS Reset Procedure Details:
  • Condition: Ensure the car is in "On" mode (push button twice without pressing the brake, or turn key to "On").
  • Action: Pull the high beam stalk towards you ("flash to pass") 5 times.
  • Confirmation: The battery light on the dashboard should flash 3 times, indicating the BMS is reset.
