New XLT purchased in January 2025. Only 3,000 miles. Got an oil change and went with synthetic.

Also, added a bottle of Techron, as I do with all of my cars after every oil change.

Let the hate begin.....you don't need synthetic, you're wasting money, that oil change was too soon.

The dealer was a joy to work with too.

Happy Sunday.

If you always use TopTier-certified fuel, then the Techron is a waste. You only need that if you use crap fuels with little or no PEA detergents in them.
My Corvette buddies think differently.....

Your Corvette buddies need to learn a few things. If you have port injection or carburetors then you wash fuel over the intake valve, and you can get away with lesser detergents in your fuel. If you have a later model with direct injection then you absolutely need PEA at maximum levels, and get small amounts of blowback with a fairly wild cam and hard acceleration to clean the intake valves. So if you're using the TopTier-certified fuel then you already have a good amount of PEA, and adding even more will do essentially nothing. On the other hand, if you're using crummy fuel then adding Techron is really the only thing that will help improve the valve life. Either way, with a D.I. engine you need to step on it regularly to get some blowback. This is where a big engine is at a disadvantage.

If you add the Techron yourself, might want to add it 500 miles or so before oil change. Any microscopic crud that washes into oil will be flushed during the oil change.

Is that a thing? I'll ask next time!
Good practice to inspect & sniff your oil cap when checking your oil dipstick every few weeks.

Here’s why: Per Grok AI

1. **Check for Contamination**:
- **Visual Inspection**: Look for milky or frothy residue on the oil cap, which indicates coolant or water mixing with the oil (often from a blown head gasket or condensation). A healthy cap should show clean oil or slight dark residue.
- **Smell Test**: Sniffing the cap can reveal a gasoline or diesel odor, signaling fuel dilution from issues like faulty injectors or incomplete combustion. Oil should smell slightly burnt or neutral, not like fuel or coolant.

2. **Early Problem Detection**: Catching signs of dilution (fuel, water, or coolant) early can prevent engine wear, sludge buildup, or severe damage, saving costly repairs.

3. **Monitor Engine Conditions**: Frequent short trips or cold starts can increase condensation or fuel dilution, which may show up as moisture or fuel smell under the cap.

4. **Simple Maintenance Check**: It’s a quick, no-cost way to assess oil condition between changes, especially in older vehicles or those under heavy use.

Perform this check when the engine is cool to avoid burns, and combine it with regular oil level and condition checks for a fuller picture of engine health. If you notice unusual colors, textures, or smells, have the vehicle inspected by a mechanic.”

3,000 then refill with full synthetic, smart move. I did that. I do 5k intervals now starting at 10,000 miles.
Techron at 3,000 total waste of money. If your truck doesn’t sit no fuel additives are needed.

If it’s sits for months and you’re using ethanol fuel you may have issues. I use Star Tron in my non ethanol gas cans for my generator. I treat one ounce per six gallons per year. I use the fuel up after two years. I poor it in my 2004 Esxape.

Now ! My 2004 V-6 Ford Escspe has 228,000 miles, runs perfect, NO Techron no fuel additives of any kind,
Ever.
