Oil Change

This is probably an old thread, but I have a question? Just did my first oil change pn my 24 lariet Hybrid. 4000 miles of enjoyable driving with zero problems. Great vehicle! Changed oil and filter and put in 6qt of 0W-20 0il. Checked the dipstick and it is really over filled! Now, under the hood written in white marker is the notation, 6.02 qt 0W-20 so I put on 6 in to refill. Dipstick says it's over filled! Manual says 5.5qt! Do I need to take out a pint or just leave it in? I'm confused! Please give me some input here. Thanks

What do you mean " written in white marker"?

Someone wrote in marker an oil quantity on a new truck? I doubt it. Not like someone at the factory is writing the fill amount on each truck.

Long story short, drain some of it. Go with the manual, and the dipstick.

...And please, once you have this resolved, find a reputable internet source and read up on best practices for changing oil. Dumping in fluid quantities based on random scribbles is not the way to do it.

I don't even dump the full capacity the manual calls for without stopping and checking the dipstick somewhere along the way.

Yes I know how to change oil in cars and trucks! But when it is in bold big print right out front 6.02Qt 0W-20 underlined. It gets your attention! I'll drain out a pint or so and move on. Thanks

Well - must not have or you would have seen the 5.7 capacity shown.
Capacities

Variant	Including the Oil Filter
All.​	5.7 qt (5.4 L)

So even the mistaken idea to pour in that capacity would have caused less overfill.

And then from experience that never does everything drain out (that I've even seen or heard), would have caused less.

Shoot, I have a Haynes guide that shows the wrong capacity oil for my year, compared to the manual. And while I do trust the manual more, I've discovered even there Toyota made some mid-year production changes into the next MY, so even that's not always correct.

Yes, the manual says 5.7 qt but I agree that changes get made and when it comes from the factory with a very bold 6.02 Qt 0W-20 underlined it get your attention! Thanks for the positive, mostly, feedback.

Yes, I know about overfilling the crankcase and foaming of the oil which can lead to oil starvation in some plpicaces in the engine. Bad! I toom out a pint of oil, dipstick is where it should be a d all is right with the world. But I still can't get this damn Pic to show up in my post!
