I checked my oil yesterday, wiped it off with my fingers and got back in the truck and smelled gas. First question is is this normal?
I know it’s turbo and directed injected if not mistaken, did not know if it’s the way these motors are. I drive 8 miles to work so it warms up to normal temps. I don’t think it’s short trips. Oil looked fine as well. Not to dark

Next question is I noticed when I put it in drive sometimes it’s like the 8 speed tranny is trying to go back to park or the stop hold feature is activating when taking off. It’ll jerk the truck very briefly then do fine after. Maybe lasts for second. I didn’t know if anyone else had this happen or not.
Thanks for any info

The 8 speed "learns" how you drive so should smooth out in the first 1000 miles or so. How many miles do you have so far?

1800 miles. Like I say does not do it every time. You maybe on to something it does seem like it does it more in town. Like backing out of parking spot put in drive then it does it. Maybe it thinks I’m at a light idk. I probably need to turn off the auto hold see if that helps. Just started doing it.

I would think that 8 miles would be considered short trips. I have read trips of 30-40 minutes or longer are needed to properly vaporize the gas in the oil to get it to vent out. If not the gas might continue to accumulate.

I am not a mechanic. Just sharing what I have come to understand.

I changed my oil at 1000 and then on the 4000s. When I go 4,000 miles my oil does look like is is getting dark. Blow by is what is doing this and so smelling gas seems like a normal consequence. I am approaching 12,000 miles and will be changing my oil again this coming weekend.

Thanks again for all the comments
I can see where 8 miles is short trip. I was thinking more of the coolant being up to operating temps.
We get our oil changed at dealer for free. It’s at 5,000. Think it’s every other oil change they have an oil treatment added to it. Cost twenty bucks or something. One thing I like about the dealer they do check it out well. They caught a front axle boot leaking on my wife’s Explorer. Getting that fixed under warranty.
Overall I love the truck I think Ford will have many years of great sales once production straightens out.
