I got my Maverick Ecoboost AWD in Oxford White about a week ago and I keep getting an odd question about it: "Is that an electric truck?"

This seems like a weird assumption to me but I have been asked this question several times. Has anybody else got this question? Why do you think that is?

Because Ford marketed the Maverick as the first ever standard hybrid truck. There was never any mass marketing/consumer education done so then A. the game of telephone begins and people think anything new/ground breaking must be electric, or B. people don't fully understand what a hybrid is and associate hybrid with electric. My parents assumed B when I told them I ordered a Maverick.

I'll hazard a guess the folks asking the question meant to say "is that a Hybrid?".

Many folks who don't follow the automotive scene are confused about all the different types of electric enhancements in some new vehicles. We've basically got Hybrids, Plug-in Hybrids and fully Electric drive trains.

Its somewhat confusing even to those of us that follow these developments, as each manufacturer tries to differentiate themselves with somewhat different naming conventions, etc.

Unless you're tuned into the car business, the biggest thing you've heard about Ford lately is the upcoming electric Lightning.

So in their heads, New Ford Pickup = Electric.

I just automatically respond with "half" when I get that question. It gets the point across quickly.

I'm pretty sure that a hybrid is classified as an HEV - Hybrid Electric Vehicle.

I think you are right but I am not sure that is what people mean when they ask if it is electric.

Really, my guess is that all of the above comments are correct to some extent. What is interesting to me is what it means to Ford.

I think Ford might be winning in marketing and perception right now... People are automatically associating a new truck from Ford with the electric revolution.

Yep, so far, pretty much everyone who has asked about mine has thought it was "electric."
