I drove the Maverick up to New England for Christmas and some of the days were bitter cold. The video link below demonstrates how my Maverick XL hybrid sounded Christmas Eve when I remote started it in 13° weather. I grew up in Massachusetts and began driving in 1981. I've never heard an engine as noisy as this on a cold start.

Would be interested to know if others have had similar sounding cold starts.

Yes, I’ve posted about it a few times. Mine is at the dealer again for it and they have a ford engineer looking at it and he’s also stumped. Btw I also live in a cold area and this seems to be cold related for me and others. No one including ford has any idea what the issue is. Mine even caused a check engine light with a misfire code. After I get it back (unchanged I’m sure) I’m giving up on it being fixed. Trading it in as soon as I can get a 2024 Tacoma. Good luck with yours but don’t expect it to get fixed.

Same here. Over the weekend in Massachusetts, my Maverick threw two engine misfire codes. So, I brought the truck into the Ford dealership from which I purchased it in North Carolina as soon as I got back from Massachusetts last week. I played the video above to the Ford service advisor and all he had to say was " do you think it had anything to do with the cold?". This was the first time I've had a mechanic ask me what the problem is, when I'm the one bringing the car in for service, lol. My last vehicle was of Porsche Cayenne and those dealership mechanics always had answers and not questions for the customer.

Did the check engine light stay on or go off as soon as you put it into drive?

The check engine light never stayed illuminated in the truck's display, but rather came to me through the FordPass app on my smartphone.

Would be very interested to learn about any resolution found for your truck on this, as it seems we're both experiencing the same issue. Thanks,

Because it is an Atkinson Cycle engine and can run at extreme cam timing settings to save fuel and curb emissions, it can be very noisy in certain modes. When it's cold is one of those times.
Then why does is cause a check engine light and misfire?

I’ll keep you updated but I don’t expect any type of resolution.

My hybrid gets noisy when the ICE kicks in, especially when cold in the morning. Not as whiny as the EB though. That thing sounded like a dying pig heading for slaughter
Interesting that you mention that- Last September my first ride in an XLT Maverick was yikes- Loud as F- Rig just felt like a bucket of bolts - A week later I drive another XLT but with FX4/LUX/Tow and it was so much better- Another week goes by and I drive a loaded Lariat/Lux and its a dream- Quiet engine, smooth as silk-

We have had our loaded Lariat/Lux now for 6 + months- Engine is pretty quiet- Did Ford do something later in the build cycle to quiet the noisy engines ? Hmmm
