I traded my '22 in on a '25 Hybrid AWD. I'm trying to set it up so it announces/shows a new text message coming through in Apple Car Play. It seems like it should do that. I've been through all the settings and forgetting and readding the phone but still nothing. The messages are there, but I have to periodically check my app to look for new messages. Is this a common problem and is there a fix?

I don't use the feature myself so no idea 🤷‍♂️ , no idea if this answer your question, but according to goole AI:

To display text messages in Apple CarPlay, go to Settings > Notifications > Messages on your iPhone and ensure Show in CarPlay is toggled ON. You also need to turn on Announce Notifications or Announce Messages under Settings > Siri & Search or Siri > Announce Notifications to have your messages read aloud.

Low hanging fruit: delete your car from CarPlay and set it up fresh. Might fix it.

Nice Idea. For some reason after reading your post, my mind went back to: Ctrl; ALt; Del

As I tell my staff, "when in doubt, reboot."

Did this too.

Ok, so look at the "focus" settings on your phone. It is possible to have CarPlay / Siri ignore announcements while CarPlay is in use, for driving safety. It is not part of the other announcement suggestions people have made. Settings/Focus/Driving: scroll down tot he bottom and under "TURN ON AUTOMATICALLY" you want "Activate manually" showing under "While Driving."

Mine worked fine until I installed the IOS 18.6.2 - how i have no notifications, message reading or Siri in the truck. I have checked just about every setting in the truck and phone and so far, silence.

Try turning up the volume when it should be reading the text to you. I had that happen in a rental car and that’s what fixed it (Even though it was playing music right before I played the text, there was zero volume reading the text)

I have a 25 and CarPlay works well with messages. The notification banner shows up on the bottom and Siri will read it. If I don’t read it, the Messages app will have a red dot to indicate unread messages.

My bet would be on the do not disturb while driving setting

Correct. This often happens with Apple Maps, if I try to adjust the music volume while a Naps notification is playing it instead turns down the music volume.

It might have been this. I'll find out in an hour or so.
