That’s kind of crappy to not curse on here… but come on… I get cost cutting etc… but that’s such a basic cheap piece of item and it goes along way with noise and etc. if I find that most all of us have none… I just will try to put some in myself if I can maneuver such a thing lol.

*sigh*... Came across this thread by chance; I got curious and went looking for these insulators.... I have a Lariat, and I'm missing the Driver's side one (I see the passenger side one installed fine) -- it's obvious it was missed when it was built. Since I bought it used (was returned by original owner w/ ~10,000 miles), I doubt I have any claim to complain to the dealer... Guess I'm going to spend $40 on the Drivers side one (NZ6Z-16072-A) because it bugs me too much. At least it's the easier side to install.
It may have fallen down to the bottom of the fender. If missing, Although used, it is still under mfg warranty and Ford should replace it. It won't hurt to ask?? Good luck.

I couldn’t agree more!! It makes no sense…. Like oh lariat you get acoustic windshield, yet no fender to engine insulation? I have had so many cars from $500-50k and never seen this not in place!?
If it's supposed to be there have dealer warranty it!

Fyi to all-I ordered a set of these insulators and installed them today. Drivers side ---I installed from the engine compartment. No issue getting it in there. Passenger side---No go from the topside because of the washer reservoir so--- I installed by removing some of the fender well liner and worked the insulator upwards, as it is a tight squeeze around the washer fluid reservoir. I also opened both front doors all the way and that allowed access to the other side of the insulator which helped when working it up to the top of the fenders. For personal preference I jammed the top point of the insulator as high as I could. I would rather keep space at the bottom of the fender to allow for drainage. Overtime these may work their way down due to gravity, but time will tell.

Just a follow up to my post. I have had these insulators installed for over 4000 miles now, and they have not sunk or slipped at all. (I had made mention in my first post that they may slip over time) I feel it helped somewhat with the engine noise as well. So they were worth the purchase.

I've owned a Datsun truck, 2 Chevy LUVs, 2 Rancheros, 4 Rangers and none ever had insulation or foam blocking there that I can remember. Never gave it a thought 🤷‍♂️

Agree. My older Rangers and other vehicles didn't have insulators that I remember. (May be some splash shields on my vintage Mustangs, if that counts. Those were intended to keep water within the wheel well though.) But the cowl/top of fender area on these Mavericks seem to have a cavity in that area that opens right into the engine compartment.

Yes, there is an opening there on both sides- BUT- it is completely covered with the door closed. I just inspected mine with door opened and found there are 2 rubber oval gaskets which form a tight seal of the cabin with the door CLOSED - which is the normal condition when driving.

There is a thick rubber seal all the way around the door opening of the cabin itself + a separate slightly smaller Rubber seal attached to the front of the door itself. When the door is closed the door seal smashes up tight on the flat metal of the frame on the door opening. Anybody concerned about this can simply go open your door, identify the oval black Rubber seals mentioned and then slowly closes the door watching the door gasket . It is easy to see how it all meshes together upon closing. I don't see anything skipped that wasn't needed to seal the cabin from engine compartment or outside environment with door closed 👍

There wasnt anything skipped in regards for sealing off the elements. I didnt imply that; and didnt buy these for that reason. These are just insulators. In my mind they are meant to deflect noise, nothing more then that. Not meant to be a weather seal. And I think they have reduced/deflected some of the engine noise.

Yes, I wasn't responding to the insulator angle again or that it was supposed to be a weather seal. Was more of a broader commentary on what I saw when I went and checked and a general FYI for the people who mentioned smells into interior, but I was too lazy to go back to address that post directly.

I get it. And Thanks for your diligence checking that out for the fellow owners.

Gentlemen's, there is a purpose for this opening! ⚒ it is opened for you so you can do oil undercoating like a "fluid film" ! Ford wants you to rust-proof your fender and inspect it on regular basis if rust is forming :ROFLMAO:. find a positive side of it
