I agree that it has more to do with the transmission shift points. Mine sometimes acts like it is hunting for the right gear at low speeds, especially when the engine is below operating temperature. Mine has been running fine on 87 octane, but I do use top tier gas.

I added Sport Mode with FORScan on my FX4. I don’t seem to have this problem with 87 octane. I will try the Sport mode and compare it to the normal mode soon.

My Maverick is my first ever turbocharged vehicle. As OP stated, when he first accelerates, there seems to be a delay in movement. I've noticed if you run in sport mode, there is less of a delay. And if you do what I do and pre-stage your launch with foot on brake and gas, there is barely any delay. I wouldn't recommend anything I do as it will probably break your vehicle sooner

I can't seem to get an answer on this, I have the 2024 2 liter Eco boost, AWD XLT and it does NOT have the sport mode, before you can say enable it, I will not mess with the factory settings to do so, for all you know if something goes wrong the dealership might be able to find that out and void your warranty. All I want to know is if the tow mode will improve acceleration and overall responsiveness under normal driving, So far all the you tube videos just compare normal vs sport mode. no use to me...

Try using 'sport' mode to see if it makes any difference.
I agree, the eco boost is a bit slow off the line.
Too bad I don't have sport mode....and no not going to activate it with third party software and risk void warranty... NOT Stupid...

On my 2.0 Ecoboost FWD XLT (not FX4) I'm not experiencing any hesitation unless I forget to turn off the Auto Stop/Start, then it's noticeable.
I've run it in normal, sport & eco and each feels different in terms of throttle response but none had any hesitation.
I'd also talk to my dealer and make sure the tranny doesn't need a software update.

It's not that it lacks power but sort of hesitates on acceleration mostly when taking off on turns running 87 octane, I think its the 87 octane. Brand new only 360 miles on it would 91 or higher octane fix this?
That's how mine was and ended up blowing my motor yesterday due to faulty spark plug

Not sure it’s turbo lag. I think these turbos kick in around 2500 rpm. The trans and shifting in the mavericks just suck. Try to drive it in sport see if there’s a difference.
To the OP just throw some 93 in there see how that feels. If not definitely get a tune, even an off the shelf tune would help.

Just responding again. I jumped off the edge and put a livernois tune (91-93 per, 87-93 tow) on my mav at 15k. As far as I'm concerned it drives like Ford should have made it to begin with. It no longer acts strange at low throttle, it doesn't feel like the throttle cuts out on sharp turns (I have a couple more specific attempts I want to make) and the added oomph is only a bonus to me.

If I'm going to nitpick, the shifting can feel as tiny bit harsh and the engine will still do a VERY slight pulsing/wobble under very specific throttle input (2k, light) but only when first started cold.

Data. I'm a euro mechanic, used to how they make 4 banger turbos drive (and some have ecoboost engines) and thats my baseline for how this truck should feel. I only use top tier fuel, typically 91 or 93 but have put 89 in 2 or 3 times. I looked at papers that Ford gives to techs to show what to watch out for in a car being tuned and causing damage. I'm not concerned about having any of those issues as I didn't do a tune to get max power and race civics. I've probably only pushed the go pedal or run the truck to redline a couple times and only for traffic/emergency, not to see what the truck does.
