Until recently I had 2 vehicles: a 2007 Toyota 4Runner and a 2004 F250 CC long bed (V10, manual tranny). The F250 was bought new and originally my daily driver. My need for a truck that size gradually diminished over the years, until it almost entirely disappeared, so I began using my wife's cast-off SUVs for my daily driving. The 4Runner recently turned over 250k miles, and the F250 looked to be needing some significant repair investment over the next 2 - 3 years to keep running reliably, so I decided I could probably replace both of those with a single vehicle.

My first inclination was to find a recent (2022 - 2024) gold-certified F150 in the area. I did look, but I didn't like what I was finding in terms of price (my budget was ($30 - 35k), selection, or location. I did notice as I was browsing that there seemed to be a good number of used Maverick's at those dealers at pretty reasonable prices (in today's context, anyway :) I then did some research on the vehicle (including on this site). To be completely honest, my expectation was that I would quickly find some attribute that was a complete turn-off for me, and go back to looking for F150s. To my great surprise, the closer I looked, the more I found to like, including the fact that nearly everyone who has bought one seems to like it a lot.

I decided to take quick look at new ones at some very local dealers. There were many more available than there were F150s. I found one dealer nearby that had >20 2025s on the lot, with 2026s arriving. I went there on Thursday (12/4) with my checkbook, and left with a new 2025 XL with the 4k towing upgrade. I paid $29,500 for it, so I am way ahead of the game re my budget, and so far I like driving the truck very much (although the learning curve is pretty steep in some respects).

Hello and welcome to MTC. Congratulations on your new Maverick. What learning curve? Also how about some pictures of your new truck?

My learning curve is all of the added "features" (most of which I could live without) e.g., "lane keeping", along with the concept that so much functionality is now purely software-driven. I retired after 38 years of IT systems-level career, yet I'm not completely comfortable with applying that much automation to a motor vehicle. Part of me still prefers to rely on mechanical and electro-mechanical linkages for driving. 🙃

We need pictures!!
I will get there, but there isn't much of note to see at the moment. It's white metallic and dead stock XL for now  I plan to add a drop in bedliner, tailgate liner, side tracks and possibly a small ladder rack for my surfboards, that might be more worth a look.

Welcome! IMO the XL is the trim that makes the most sense for the Mav! (Not that I'm biased or anything)

I went from a 2010 6' bed Ranger with a TrakRak to this 4 1/2' bed Mav. I opted for a cheap, under $110., bolt on ladder rack from Amazon (JV something or other.) I used it all summer and took it off in early October. I spray painted two really small spots of wear (not OCD here and could have skipped that) and put some grease on the bolt threads. The yaks ride a smidgen higher than I would like, but my put-ins are close and the antennae is clear (although I bought a stubby before I even got the truck.)

That looks pretty good. I have my eye on a similar aluminum 2-piece rack at about the same price point that is vertically adjustable, so hopefully that would put my watercraft a bit closer the the cab roof. I would definitely need the stubby if I did that. The rack I'm looking at gets some review knocks about the weight capacity being overrated, but I'm not looking to carry 400 lbs on it, either B-)
