I just ordered a Maverick. The tail gate lock. Does that lock it so no one can lower the tailgate? Does it lock when I lock the doors?

I think that may depend on the Trim level. I know on the Lariat it does.

No the tailgate lock which is a dealer installed option stops the tailgate from being removed. Truck owners at times remove the tailgate to load heavy equipment in without damaging or bending the tailgate (ex ramps resting on bed instead of tailgate). Also just recently a post was made that when he/she power washed the bed out it pushed majority of it in the tailgate because he didn't remove it.

I believe the option is for those not locking their vehicle which locks the tailgate as well as the tailgate on the XLT and Lariat. I don't have the XL but believe it's only works with a key to lock the tailgate.

If you go to Ford where you start your build and click on the little signia to the right it gives a description of the option. Unfortunately in this scenario it doesn't do a good description except it does say it's available on all trims and the XLT and Lariat has a lock that works with power lock function. So by deduction it doesn't mean what I believe the op is inquiring.

Another way to research it is look up a locking tailgate option. There are DIY videos to have the XL trim lock button work the tailgate.

You have to be more specific about what you mean. On some trims the tailgate locks with the fob. unless you are talking about the tailgate antitheft.

On my XLT, the tailgate power locks with the rest of the doors. Works perfect with the Ford 3-piece folding tonneau, as you can't open the tonneau unless the tailgate is down. Everything in my bed is secure until I hit unlock on the fob or enter the code on the keypad.
