I've owned pickups since I turned 16 back 1982. This is how I viewed truck size:

Full size: 4x8 plywood lays flat between the wheel wells.
Mid size: 4x8 plywood will fit on top off wheel wells with 24" or less hanging over closed tailgate.
Compact: 4x8 plywood might fit but extends well beyond the closed tailgate.

I'm going to call my Maverick a mid-sized.

Yeah…..but look at your average speed, grandpa. 😂😂. Don’t like my driving…. stay off the sidewalk. I kid…I kid
How fast do you drive in a residential area? What about school zones?

Today I drove up to 83 for a short while. Time at stoplights is in the average speed.
My average speed while moving was above 65 MPH.

The SUV unibody is a mini pickup. It is definitely not a truck. Bumpers like on a car. With what you have said, the old Subaru Brat is a midsized 2 door cab truck version and the Ranchero and El Camino are full sized trucks. It is a slippery slope to morph definitions. I'm ok with knowing it is a combination of an SUV and tech to compromise for a small size with great mileage and usability at a lower price point. Most truck owners don't use them as intended, so this again is a perfect compromise with a cool factor.

I don’t go through any school zones on my commute to from work and the only residential zone I hit is when I leave my own neighborhood. Not sure you’re asking here …but SEE….now you’re down to my range 44. 😎👍😎.

It is definitely not a truck.
If it has an open bed and I can haul stuff in it, it's a truck to me.

When I was kid, we referred to Broncos, Blazers, Surburbans, etc as trucks. They definitely weren't called cars and no one had ever heard of an SUV.

Anyway, as someone mentioned earlier, it's all a marketing game.

I haul 3/4 ton in the back and pull 2 ton trailers. Occasionally, at the same time.
It's a pickup truck. Same category as an F-150. And not in the same category as a tractor-trailer truck. Just like the F-150 isn't.

By government definition Maverick is a Truck. I think their opinion carries more weight.

If I cut the roof off a big block station wagon, that is also a truck. A Jeep is a truck. A semi is a Tractor or is a tractor a tractor. There are bobtails. Maybe the correct version would be a Trucktail. And it's named after a car for probably a good reason. Whatever it is it looks like a Ford. The best looking trucks.

picking nits.... the Maverick is an SUV derived unibody small pickup... there.. fixed it for y'all.

laughable to compare it with true midsize body on frame Colorado, Canyon, and Ranger.

As far as I know, it's the first national (non-dealer) ad for the Maverick. Frankly, I think their choice of trim and color was poor. The gunmetal gray w/ black Lobo wheels doesn't seem like the best combination.

A buddy of mine in high school drove a 1936 Chevy pickup. Didn’t have any real interior room and I don’t think the whole truck was as large as my Maverick. But it was definitely a truck. I don’t believe in today’s world whether a vehicle is a unibody determines if it’s a truck. If it has an open bed to haul stuff it’s a truck imo.

The Lobo only comes in four colors - black/white/gray/blue. I think they should have used the blue in the ad.
Or a different model/color with the black out package.

I don’t believe in today’s world whether a vehicle is a unibody determines if it’s a truck.
Agreed, much less FWD and all of the amenities that used to be considered luxury: premium sound, power everything, 'bucket' seats...

And when I was a kid, a four-door pick-up was something that you only saw on a construction site and the foreman drove that one.
