The 'chemical' smell in my Lariat was pretty strong when I took delivery and while it didn't cause me any breathing problems, it did give me a bit of a headache. My wife didn't really notice it, but we definitely have different sensitivity to various smells. So I suspect it depends on the person...
I left the windows open a crack when it was parked outside a few times and it improved quickly. I assume it was just VOC's outgassing from the various synthetic materials inside.
