I'm from Iowa and I am trying to help my son locate/purchase a Maverick. He just landed his first real job in Colorado and will be moving there soon and it appears he can afford payments on a 25,000ish Maverick hybrid XL.

He wants a pickup so we thought

1. Pickup truck (if it's ok to call it that)
2. New 0 miles
3. 60,000/100,000 warranty
4. Cheap vehicle $25,000 compared to the competition.
5. Modern technology compared to his current 2008 Honda accord.

The dealers in Iowa are telling me our only hope would be if one of the ordered ones comes in and the customer changes their mind. If anyone notices one on the lot still for sale can you notify me? It's a long shot but we are hoping to purchase in the next 30 days.

We would consider EcoBoost engine or even a more expensive trim but because of his budget prefer XL

If you do get lucky and find a Maverick or some other car then be sure to research the rules in Colorado for bringing in a car from out of state.

It varies greatly with the state laws but in the worst case he could end up having to pay a lot for Iowa registration and sales tax and then when he gets to Colorado he might have to pay Colorado registration and/or sales tax a second time.

There may be ways to work around that with temporary registration but that would vary with the state laws.

Hybrid XL may be the hardest vehicle to find in the US right now if you have not been reading up. If anybody has one they are going to want a premium over MSRP of at least $5000.

The 2023 XL Hybrid comes out to right under $25k after taxes at MSRP. I very much doubt you find one of these at MSRP. But good luck with that search.

Keep the Honda a little longer (if he can) and wait until they build more Mavericks. As stated earlier the XL is the new unicorn. This Maverick balloon will pop eventually. I am sure other manufacturers are seeing the success and are burning the midnight oil to catch up to their success.

Yeah, the XL Hybrid is really only findable if someone decides not to go through with purchasing their vehicle on order. It's unlikely that those will be on the dealer lots for long or without a massive markup.

Start calling dealers in Colorado and asked to be called if they get one and preferably at MSRP. Colorado will eliminate the transfer of title problem and I would expect that to take weeks or months. If his jobs is temporary in Colorado and keeps his residency in his current state and files any income taxes required in both states he would be able to keep his car registered in his current state. If he resides at your house and uses your address that might work. Also you could put car in your name and loan it to him and not have to register it in Colorado. I would keep current car if it's good enough and buy in Colorado when he gets there and knows job is permanent. I wish him best of luck.
