I’m desperately trying to figure how I can safely remove the Hood release lever on my Maverick, but I can’t seem to find anyone whose explained how.
I’m trying to remove both the lever and the panel associated with it so I can access my auto off wiring back there.

I want to install a mod that keeps the auto stop off every time I turn the car off and on.

Any and all help is welcome, let’s start a discussion. I think this would help many others interested in accessing the area if they haven’t done so already.

If you have a high-quality device like 4dtech there’s no need to remove that stuff, just unplug the connector on the back of the OBD2 port. See the video on the Maverick device in 4dtech.com

.

The OBD2 port is directly next to the hood release, not behind it.

There are two nuts that hold the ODB2 port in place that I want remove to reach the plug. However, the panel attached to the hood release obstructs the left most nut; which makes reaching it with any tool almost impossible.

The crawl space underneath there is already terrible enough as it is, and removing the plug itself would be simple if it wasn’t to hard to reach. Simply put, I don’t have enough leverage to yank it out as is (it’s on there tight). Therefore, removing the panel would allow me to remove both bolts, lower the ODB2 port and comfortably remove the plug.

Thanks for taking the time to give your input.

If you meant, that I should’ve said that instead, then yeah sure I should’ve. Didn’t mean to confuse anyone if that was the case.

I mean if you insist on doing it the hard way be my guest but life is complicated enough when you can just do a plug and play and eliminate the automatic shut off when you come to a stop it's a no brainer😉

interesting, in the video from 4Dtech it shows them reaching up and unplugging the connector on the back of the OBD2 port. They mention there's a tab that must be depressed to release the connector.

good luck...

Oh I thought we were on the same page here, that’s exactly what I’ve been saying through this post. 🤔

I mentioned in my reply that’s it’s not so simple to pull out even after decompressing the tab due to a lack of leverage and its location.

however I will give it another go to see if I can’t get it out. Appreciate the info regardless.

UPDATE: The sucker was easy to take off after trying again. I’ll take the walk of shame here, but hopefully this helps anyone else who runs into the problem.

(To be clear I tried to decompress the tab and pull it out but it wasn’t budging when I first tried lol.) Nonetheless, I know how to take off the release handle and the port now. Never hurts to know more.

Thanks again. 👍
