Ford shows a nice way to attach bikes to a board after removing the front wheel. Works well.

But I don't want to remove the front wheel. I also will be carrying a Honda XR 150 L motorcycle. Maybe with a bike also....

So I have been thinking about the way to make that work. I wanted something where I could run the bike into the bed and the front wheel be secured so I didn't have to put down a stand and could just start tying down right away. I have used front wheel chocks for motorcycles and they work well. Had intended to go that route. But after trying them they were not as secure with the bikes as I wanted.

So, I made my own design. 2 x 10 wood. Cutting the widths for the wheels is key as that is what holds it tight. The upright parts are needed to get enough leverage on the front wheel to keep the bike upright and secure. Pic of the bike in place is with nothing but the front wheel section securing the bike. Slips in and out of the slot in the bed. Takes up little room if left in.

I really like this approach. How are the bikes secured to the wooden frame (can't tell from the pictures)? And how is the wooden frame secured to the bed?

The width of the slots in the wood secure the bike. Because they are just a bit wider than the tire, and go past half way in diameter, the tire/wheel cannot lean over. So it stays upright while you tie it down. One strap in the rear and it is secure for travel as it compresses the front into the bed front and by a single wrap around the frame and tightening of the strap it won't allow side to side movement.
The bottom horizontal piece of wood is cut to fit into the forward vertical slots in the bed. Very secure.
