Might be a silly question but wouldn't ratchet straps work instead? I haven't hauled anything 5 feet long yet but it looks like the bed extender when flipped in decreases bed space.
I have 1000lb objects just shy of 5 feet.
Bed extender shape is of no use to me. Would have been so nice to close the tailgate for a secure feeling AND get to keep the reversing camera.... but I digress.

47 years in the plastic molding machinery field and here is a hard fact about plastic. You can make it scratch resistant but it is heavy, pricey, and contains high glass fiber content which then requires painting to seal for interior use. The plastic used in interior pieces is pretty much the same as a Rubbermaid tote or garbage can. Very soft material but doesn't crack from heating and shrinking due to temperature changes. I remember the good old 60s cars with painted metal interiors and guess what? They scratched easily. So it is just the nature of the beast.
Dash boards of the 70's 80's used to crack like crazy.

Crack? Or Scratch? Pick one!

Is the *bleeping* gas "gauge" on the 2025. Whoever thought it was a good idea to have a 9 segment ugly "gauge" taking up all that vertical space needs to be taken out back and taught a lesson. In my 50 years of driving I've never seen a more stupid "gauge" in my life. Same pretty much goes for the temperature gauge but I don't look at that one as much.

This even beats out the off-centered rear license plate (which 3 people have already commented to me on).

What's your biggest complaint?
ha ha ha on the off-center license plate, just bothers my boss!!!!!!!!!!

So does it have the manual button in the middle of the rotary dial as well? It's my understanding that the transmission is also a seven speed with basically second gear missing?
It's the same 8-speed transmission. Second gear is still physically there, but it is locked out, via programming, I assume.

I have only had my Maverick for 2 weeks and I'm getting 44.6 MPG during my 1000 mile break in period. So far my only disappoints are:
-no "Home Link" option on the rear view mirror. I would be happy with it being a dealer installed option.
-Not being able to default on the driving modes. I would like to stay in Eco mode at startup
So far the truck has been everything I had hoped for. Ford did a great job defining a new class of pickup truck. I'm surprised there are no other new small trucks on the market.

, I much prefer the analog gauge but the plate doesn't bother me. I wish the driving mode would latch. I'm a trained monkey switching it to "economy" mode every time I start driving.

My biggest complaint is sleep mode and dash speaker grills rattles. I was able to fix the grill rattles with foam tape. The sleep mode is annoying.

The plastics. Yeah, I know, shocker. Not only does it scratch easily, it rattles when it wants to. It's temperature sensitive. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. It'll come from the dash, a-pillar, b-pillar or even the c-pillar. That latter is rare but the first two are constant.

Yes, I'm aware that it was originally intended to be built on the cheap end with that fantastic $19,999 starting price before taxes factored in. Still, is that a legitimate enough excuse to use the cheapest plastics in the world? I don't think so. When you're pushing over $40K for a Maverick nowadays, it better have some soft-touch plastics or, at least, the injection molding one that's soft to the touch.
I don't mind the plastic interior. The bed could be a foot or 2 longer. Make a SuperCab!

I hate that the e-brake has no indicator light on it. You have to look at the dashboard.

Third vehicle I’ve had with an electronic parking brake and the others had a little light on them.

I have 2 main complaints with my Maverick, first the Dial Shifter, I find it very annoying, second the wipers that never look like they have retracted all the way, they should have gone with a counter acting wiper system.
