They actually reached out to you? My salesman responds but I always have to be the first one. Never reached out me at all to drop anything.
Oh yeah, I was just as surprised. I did email them once Ford sent out the big email to ask about possibly removing the packages and how that’d be completed. They followed up right after the holiday.

Phone call took all of 3 mins to confirm. Had a new DORA sent to me via text in 5 mins. Signed, returned, and a week later here we are.

Man I really dislike sales people. I just got off the phone with Nelson at mullinax-

i had 3 very simple questions-
  • will a new order (not a roll over) be able to be put in on Aug 2 or is it as described above
    • we can order the pre configured on Aug 2 if your getting the EB. We configured the packages so there no constrained options on them that way you can get it quicker.
      • I’m in no hurry and I’d rather have a vehicle the way I want it vs getting it quicker and not having what I want
  • Ok well I don’t want my final build to be essentially optionless like the pre configured packages are and we don’t yet know color/options for each trim level yet, do you know how to change the order to include certain things not known?
    • Go into the ford website and build your order on Aug 2 then email me a copy
      • This is where my trust began to erode - I told him well the 2023 f150 isnt available to build yet on the website what makes him think the maverick will be. Most are saying the order guide will come out day of or day before Aug 2 if lucky and the online build and price available maybe a week after. I’d prefer not to be that far down list so to speak. Then it turned into “yeah build it on the ford site and send me the links, we can change the options and such if they change- we’ll schedule you an appointment to come in on the 2nd“
  • does mullinax accept the farm bureau discount?
    • Oh, hmmm I don’t think so. I’ll have to check. I’m not sure if we take that we don’t even know what the price will be.
      • Well that’s a pretty big deal for me as it’s 500 credit (or whatever it’s technically called) and will really determine if I’m going to order from you and I’m not sure what the “price” of the vehicle has to do with the dealer accepting the credit.
Not getting a warm and fuzzy… but I’ll play the game as I’m not in a hurry. I’m more concerned with getting my order(s) in day one to hopefully get a better spot on the new non-roll orders.

We’ll see what LongMc can do but they are far and I’d have to use standard rate financing to qualify for shipping or travel expenses.

other options in the pipe are horsham and Chapman.

would be nice to do the deal locally for my Convenience only.

Meanwhile at another dealership near you ... in a random telephone conversation:

Me
: How are things looking for the MY2023 Ford Maverick ordering on 08.02.2022?

Dealer Person: As you know the HYBRID Batteries are made in China and they are having more Covid so there might not be any MY2023 to be scheduled until later in the year.

Me: Did China annexed Michigan recently? [*couldn't help it*]

Dealer Person: What do you mean?

Me: Never mind, check your e-mail ... I just sent you some info on the HYBRID Batteries, have a pleasant day.

"The new 2022 Ford Mavericks use a 27-kW, 1.1-kWh battery pack that's essentially the same as the one used in the current Escape Hybrid. However, the battery's power delivery is tuned a little bit differently to suit the pickup truck's unique power demands. Ford builds these batteries in Rawsonville, Michigan, just east of Ann Arbor."

https://www.motortrend.com/news/2022-ford-maverick-hybrid-motor-technology/

With a few exceptions, these are the "on-the-ground", "customer-facing" sales force personnel at Car Dealers (not only Ford) these days.
God help the nation.

The answers he provided are probably being dictated by the information (or lack of it) sent down by Ford. He told me that the "pre-confgured mavericks" will be submitted in Aug 2, but he could not tell me if they would in fact be accepted. This is due to the amount of existing amount of outstanding MY22 orders that have not been filled. And those MIGHT be the only ones they are allowed to submit till August 15th.

The answer he gave you about building it, is how I did my order last year. I went to ford.com built what I wanted, saved it as a PDF then sent to him and he turned it into an order. I am sure there was no malice in that statement that is just how they are used to doing it.

As for the Farm Bureau discount, that is just something he has to check with corporate for Mullinax about, not all dealers honor that discount.

I am not just giving you excuses for the answers you got, but I have bought cars at several different dealers locally, including, Greenway, Lexus, Orlando Dodge and I tried to buy a vehicle at Aristocrat VW and ended up at another VW dealer in Leesburg. Bottom line Mullinax has been the best dealer experience I have had to date, when I bought my 2019 Edge ST the experience was great, and I have no doubt that IF I keep my maverick order going it will be just as great when that finally comes to fruition.

You can also ask for Joe Light, he's my salesman over there. Unfortunately Ford hasn't provided many details to anyone so they are all still in the dark. I believe Joe told me they would accept Farm Bureau as it showed up on Mullinax's website as one of the discount options for the 22. I am going to use X-Plan though so I can't combine with Farm Bureau.

As far as the pre-configured options, I believe that is just to get the order in the system quickly. Ford isn't even scheduling the MY23s until sometime in September so you can still make changes between 8/2 and then and not affect your place in line unless you change trim or engine type. The order guides probably won't show up online until mid afternoon so I am going to go by the dealer after work that day.

Doubt it. It’s Florida, man. There is going to be a $899 doc fee and a bunch of other BS. That’s what they did to me right up the road at the Auto Mall.
Florida has among the highest Doc fees in the country. Unbelievable they can charge that much. Think California is the least at 50 bucks. In NJ it varies but around 500. In NY its capped at 175.

Mullinax has the same incompetence as everyone else, the good thing is no dealer fees. I ordered one from Mullinax(October) and one from AutoNation( June).

The first time I tried ordering via email from Mullinax and they sent the wrong documents twice, so I went in person. I told them what happened and they said ok we can do it in person. To my surprise, they come back and showed me an order for something completely different and said good news your order is already in! I said that's weird because I never signed anything.

Come to find out, they used my name, address, and phone number for someone else's order!

We supposedly got that straightened out and I submitted a new order in person. I never got a vin number, email from ford, or any other communication to this day.

My order from AutoNation finally came in, and I bought it. The only thing they screwed me on was the $899 dealer fee. They tried to sell some BS paint and interior protection for $1200 and they tried to use the financing deals from date of purchase instead of date of sale.

I said I don't want the paint protection and can you switch the financing to date of order. No problem! 5 minutes later I have an invoice for MSRP, no add ons, and 0.9% financing. They also accepted my Farmers discount no problem.

Next weekend I am driving to Mullinax in my new maverick that I bought at AutoNation and getting my $100 deposit back.

I appreciate the feedback and help I've gotten from @skadizzle and @All4spl , I just wanted to pass along the different messages that are being given out. The feeling I got was they are trying to push the "pre configured" packages on customers but dont know the basics of being able to change details about an order once its been accepted by ford BUT before getting a build date?

They want their money as fast as possible so they dont want the customer to make an order with constrained items, even if the customer has no problems waiting for it. So they "play" dumb about the process.

Which AutoNation did you go to? Sanford?

I wanted to post a follow-up on my experience with Mullinax (Apopka) since I just got my Maverick from them last weekend. The original order was for FWD with tow package so I had to deal with the change to AWD and was eligible for the private offer to get it for free. It took lots of emails and around 5 weeks for them to get the ordered changed in the system and get the order placed. I can't say if it was just my sales person, but communication was generally slow.

Unfortunately, something wasn't done correctly with the updated order and when it came time to get the truck the AWD offer wasn't associated with it so I got screwed out of the $2200. Since it took over 8 months for it to get made I wasn't going to pass and just paid the extra amount.

With all of that being said, I will give them credit for keeping the original price, no fees, and never trying to upsell or pull all of the dirty dealer tricks. The finance guy mentioned the Ford extended warranties but didn't try to push them, and when I said no he just moved on and didn't spend a bunch of time trying to change my mind.

The buying part was simple and straight forward with no hassles. If it wasn't for the AWD rebate issue it would have been a great experience. I was checking out other customers while I was there and didn't see any arguing/yelling. Overall, I would recommend and buy from them again, although it might be better if you are able to go there in person to get things done (I did everything through phone and internet).

Here's my story: I spend half the year in Fla, so I ordered a Maverick on 7/14/21 and was hooked up with Coconut Point Ford in Estero. Fine. Right away I am probing the salesman to get a fix on delivery, final price, etc. Crickets. Then in January I get a call that my truck has landed. But there is a $400 'tag fee' or something like that. Plus an $899 'admin fee' of some sort. What, exactly, did the dealership do to warrant these up charges? Nothing except back it off the carrier and run it through the rinse cycle. I questioned the $899 fee and was told that 'all dealers charge this fee.' This is simply not true and even if it is a little lie it is still a falsehood and I will not deal with a dealership which is not transparent. So I turned it down and do not doubt that someone else paid the fees and drove it away the next day.

However, when I first got bad vibes from Coconut Point i.e., immediately, I contacted Mullinax in Kissimmee and was told that, no, they do not charge additional fees, so I ordered an XL with minimum options from them. It was a long, long process and my sales rep was maybe not as proactive as he could have been. But in his defense, I don't think Ford gave the dealerships a lot of information to keep buyers assured. We were all in the dark. To cut to the chase, I called my sales rep in early July and was told that my truck arrived the night before and they were just about to call me. Uh, huh. Since I was up north for the summer I had to do some maneuvering to get to Kissimmee on July 23. My sales guy met me at the airport and drove me to the dealership. The actual transaction took less than 90 minutes and I was on my way. The truck is exactly as ordered. Full tank of gas. The final price was exactly what was on the sticker. Except for some $110 discount (I was not about to ask what that was about.)

So, my view is that if you are anywhere near Florida -- or have some means of getting to Florida -- then dealing with anyone else would be crazy. When they say no dealer charges, it's true. They are really hot to get another 'President's Award' When I am asked to 'rate' the dealership I will give them what they want. I got what I wanted: New truck, no BS, no bogus fees.

Thanks for sharing. Do you mind saying who your salesperson was?
I personally don’t buy in to dealers not getting info from ford. Fact is all dealers get and have access to the same information. Furthermore, they can always ask questions about or inquire on things they aren’t clear on. You know, make an effort. That’s the real issue, the lack of effort put forth.

I reached out to a dealer from Erie, Pa after reading some good comments about them. I sent an email to the gentlemen mentioned in the threads I was previously read. I did this at 1418 and I had a real response by 1505 I had a response.

here is more detail -https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/forum/threads/erie-pa-delaer.18205/#post-345467

I think I would rather not identify the salesperson. I do not think the process would have been different with anyone else.

I agree with you that dealers either have or can get more info. And they probably do not make a point of directing sales reps to pass it along. In my concluding meeting with the honcho customer service guy I told him that Ford -- from Dearborn to sales floor - needs to do a much better job keeping their customers current on the process. Eleven months is a long time to be left hanging.

I wonder if the communication problem is a reflection of the fact dealers are on the sidelines -- they have not received any Mavericks for their own account and probably don't make much on factory orders. Not that the dealer adds any value at all to the sale of a new vehicle.
