I could use some input from the folks getting 30+ miles per gallon on their XLT eco-boost. I can’t seem to break 27 .6 miles per gallon was wondering what you all are doing or using to get over 30 miles per gallon only. My truck is stuck with the exception of a soft tunnel cover.. TIA

My average MPG for like 50/50 city/highway has been around 28. now that its winter by me using remote start and winter fuel blend hurts a bit and is more like 25.

My first hand would be long drives. I have driven dozens of times now 4+hr trips and when I fill up and head out on the highway, I will see mine get up to 32-33mpg easy during that duration (assuming it was all highway driving). get off the highway and back onto city roads then it starts dropping off.

But I have posted pictures on here before, I have gotten my ecoboost up to 37mpg on back country northern wisco roads where speeds are 55 and you have to slow down to go through some small towns. That stretch was a 60+ mile trip once I got off the highway/interstate to fill up. After I filled up and reset trip odo, the overall average speed was like mid 40s for the 60+miles... but I did honestly see it hit 37mpg and I wasnt trying to "hypermile" it.

So I would say you would only really see the 30+ doing highway driving alone. throw in city driving and it will be less.

EDIT: if this works, this link is to the post with the photo. turns out average speed was like 52, not mid 40s.

There are so many factors involve with mpg.
Was 27.6 highway, city, combined?
Is the one tankfull or average of multiple fill-ups?
Is this figure from the Avg Miles on the dash or calculated? (My average dash reading was 1.5mpg high.)
If calculated, did you top-off the same each time?
How many miles did you put on the tank before refueling? (Less error from topping with more miles)
Terrain-flat, hilly, etc.
These make a really big difference- Speed? Headwind, tailwind?
Etc.
I've seen as high as 34mpg (calc) driving 65 on a coastal highway thru MS, AL, FL. But typical highway is 30-32mpg, around the DFW area is 26-28mpg.

I averaged 25 mpg with about 95% city driving...I thought that was pretty respectable.

I've got 500 miles on my 2024 Eco 2.0L/AWD/Lariat now.
I took a 130 mile ride today. I had a little rain early on and some really thick pea
soup fog up in the pass where the Appalachian trail crosses Highway 64 before you drop down Into Franklin NC.

It was In the low 30's up there, Franklin was in the low 40's. The climb up was so smooth. I did it In ECO mode with plenty of power to spare. My Mav was not loaded, just me.

My previous 2021 Bronco Sport base with the 1.5L turbo Dragon engine would go up there just fine but would often down shift two or three gears to make the climb.

In my Maverick I had one single downshift at the start of the main climb, The 2.0L was not even trying.
FWIW I did not pussy foot along, I climbed one section at 60 mph and took some of the curves
pretty fast. I need only 12,000 miles out of the factory Michelins so I can play in the twisties a bit.
November 2025, Black Friday tire sale at my Ford dealer, $150 rebates. As for last year It was
basically buy three get one free on tires. Got my Faulkin Rubutrecks for my Ecsape this way.
$142 each at the Ford dealer !
The ride down the 6% grade sections on the Franklin side was cool, I had time to play with things.
I learned a few things also.

Adaptive cruise control uses the brakes somewhat to limit over speed, and again I only had a single down shift, out of over drive I guess until I started down a 7% section.
Then I needed a little brake to hold speed.

Next I put it in Tow/Haul.
The engine and brakes held my speed steady at 50 mph all the way down the steep section,
I didn't need to add any brake.
On my return trip I left the drive mode in, 'Normal' all the way up and down.

I already had 45 mile on this tank,
I did some exploring around Franklin, bought me some shoes, browsed Harbor freight.
On the tank a total of 175 miles round trip.
The dash said I averaged 27.3 mpg's when I got home. I'll math check It when I fill up.

Now that I've passed 500 miles I can say with confidence the motor is breaking in nicely.
It spins up with more authority, pulls up hills like It's learning how to breathe right and over all feels stronger.

175 mile ride from 2,000 ft above sea level then down to 1500, then up to Winding Stair Gap at the Appalachian trail crossing on highway 64 where the elevation Is 3,800 ft.
Then Into Franklin for some In town wandering then back up and over to go home.
27.3 average mpg Is great In my book.
I have no doubt that on flat land driving even with this winter fuel mix I'd hit 30 mpg

This little mini truck drive's like a 37,000 vehicle. I think It was well worth the money honey :'P
I am very happy.

I just had my first fill-up since the dealer filled my tank when I purchased my Maverick a couple of weeks ago. I got 32.3 mpg (calculated) with about 75/25 per cent rural/city driving and I am very happy with that. Now, I am in the break-in period with no rapid acceleration and I haven't had it over 65 mph yet but that's pretty much my driving habit anyway.
