I’m thinking the best mileage would be in eighth gear at the lowest rpm it will hold before downshifting, but I am only 60% sure of this theory and have been playing with it.
I would love to figure out what speed/mode/gear/rpm combination offers the best mileage all else aside.
Everyone, please share your theories, thoughts, experience or guesses?

My experience with my 24 Lariat has been Normal mode in calm or tailwind conditions, especially on the highway. When rolling into a strong headwind, say above 15 mph, tow haul mode is the way to go. I've tried Eco, but it actually cost me some at highway speeds. Haven't tried it in town cuz I'm thrilled with the 22-23 I get in normal!

Eco (to tame the throttle inputs), in addition to staying light and Smooth on the throttle.
I wouldn't lug a non-Port injected Ecoboost, but thats just me.
Otherwise, low RPM and stay out of boost.
I'd even add, NO cruise control, because it will want to downshift for hills. If you roll down the hill and gain a few MPH, and then lose a few MPH on the upslope, its likely more fuel efficient than the stupid Auto trying to downshift 1-3 gears to maintain its cruise MPH. (If you don't have hills, this likely isn't relevant.)

The Maverick has aero deficiencies above 50 mph.. But, Americans want their trucks to "look like a F150", so here we are. 'Looks' sell better than having an aero/fuel efficient vehicle, to the masses.

It just dropped into eighth gear,
Ford Maverick What Mode/Gear/RPM for highest MPG - EcoBoost 2.0 Turbo? IMG_1942

Ignore my average mpg in the picture.
I check with math the old way.
She won’t go into eighth gear below 65 mph as far as I can tell.
At 60 mph the best I can do is 28 mpg.
At 71 mph, about 2,000 rpm a 31 mpg average is easy peasy.

I watched it go from 31.2 to 31.6 mpg at a cruise controlled 85-90 mph once.
But that’s what a proper Italian tune up can do.
I never use Eco mode, makes my 2.0 run like it needs a tuneup

I could care less if anyone believes me.
I have no reason to lie.

So far I have been using all Eco mode, but thanks to you and others I can see it may not ALWAYS yield the best mpg. Tow mode in a headwind or up a steep incline just makes sense.
Thank you very much, that’s exactly the kind of input I was looking for!

I am definitely lugging and can see it may not be a good idea, especially for clogging up the thingy in the exhaust.
I will try turning off the cruise on downslopes, good point.
Thank you very much, that’s exactly the kind of input I was looking for!

I was thinking my Eco mode shift at 58mph was eighth gear that I would then downshift when brought down below 53mph. That would explain why upon acceleration I was only counting seven gears.
My Eco mode mpg above 65mph has been in the 25mpg range.
Seems Eco mode is not ALWAYS the best mpg option.
Thank you very much, that’s exactly the kind of input I was looking for!

Eco mode is giving these results on my 31 mile daily commute with lights traffic and a few small inclines. Through a couple small towns and mostly 55mph limit.

Always glad to help! BTW, I am an avid user of Cruise Control as well. My wife says I drive with my thumb! Love the adaptive feature though I have to be up on the wheel where there are a lot of trucks. It is so smooth I'll be matching the truck speed. before realizing I've slowed down!

First to Second is very hard to feel If you’ve got that unbroken egg under your toes on the gas pedal.

As is going into your second overdrive, that’s eighth btw.

If your in the Turbo’s sweet spot the shift into eighth shows a 500 RPM drop and the same rate of increasing speed as before the shift.

It’s a Turbo thing Truckers use.

I just ran a few 0 to 70 in Sport mode keeping around 5,000rpm for my tune-up. Amazing how fast the Maverick is, WOW!

Yeah Sport Mode is great for 0-60 and 1/4 mile runs but for Normal driving I don't like it. It stays in the lower gears and Revs to much for My liking.

I like My 2025 but I have to say I like Your Tachometer,Speedometer and Fuel and Temp gauges much more than My 2025.

Just got home 37.2mpg going mostly around 53 to 58mph over 28 miles few stops few inclines. Wind at my back half the trip and across the bow for half.
