I find that the lens is often dirty and the view is obscured. My 16 F 150 had the lens integrated into the tailgate handle which is higher up and in 4 years I seldom had issues.

I've checked my camera lens more than once to see if it's clean. Unfortunately it is. I won't say that it's "Fisher-Price toy camera quality" for fear I'll be sued by Fisher-Price.

I have also noticed that my camera gets dirty quickly also and I have only driven it 300 miles.

This time of year it’s hard to keep anything clean.

I’m comparing apples to apples, sure, road salt, dust etc is a problem, but even rain drops in comparison to my F150. I think it’s an issue of placement, being closer to the road.

totally agree about the placement of the lens.
I didnt get nearly as many issues with rain sticking to my camera on my subaru impreza. being low to the ground doesnt seem to be the issue, i believe it is the shape and lack of cover. the camera on my subaru was tucked up above the license plate so it didnt get rain on it 99% of the time. this camera seems to get rain on it as droplets run down the emblem, and then the water accumulates directly in the line of sight.

Must have been more recent because I have a 2012 Chevy Colorado and it doesn’t have it. Are you sure it is mandatory on all vehicles ?
Yes. I do not recall the year it was mandated.
Found it: May 2018. Oka, 4yrs ago. May bad.
